Currently in my second year of college, almost time for me to pick a major and im still clueless. What do you guys major in? I just need a fallback D;

Major in getting out of that school ASAP, because there aren't any jobs left in the USA, before you end up in debt, college degrees are becoming worthless, as the years go on, don't believe? Ask the GHOST OF COLLEGE PAST:

Well hmmm I like kids kinda, I always thought teaching would be a good option. Business my biggest passion but would majoring in anything business be useful?

What about health care professional at some level or for business....professional accountancy/auditing/banking/taxation/law qualifications are considered useful from a business perspective.

Go with what you think will provide you a comfortable living but also make you happy. The last thing you want is to regret your career move.

I'm sure your pretty young and you really have the upper-hand. I just started my 1st year (Junior) of University and it's not easy with Family, Work and everything else.

If I was young and had to do it all over TODAY I would go into a medical field of some type.

Boomers are aging and Americans are by large numbers getting older in age on average.

Instead of business and marketing I got my degree back in rock ages in I would today find a field in the medical area.

Just make sure you do something you enjoy as it is a real pita to work in a field you are not happy in.

My BA is in Economics and most worthless piece of paper in the world. Too much competition in the investment banking sector.

I would study something in a technical trade. Most college degrees are nothing but getting into debt. With a technical job you wont get into much debt.

But any degree in the medical is the best place to go. You can work as a Nurse, respiratory field, x-ray tech, and other things. Or if you want something more laid back, you can work in a dental office, study dental hygienist. 2 years in school and make close to $40k/year right out of school where I live.

Unless you plan on going into a heavily specialized/technical field like engineering, law, or medical, then major in what you love or what interests you most.

I'm currently in my second year in college and majoring in sociology. Beforehand I was interested in business, but once it got competitive (I go to a public ivy), I decided I didn't want to be in an environment where I couldn't even get help from my classmates. I switched to sociology because I am interested in solving problems in society through corporate means.

I happen to also come from a business-oriented family (lots of my relatives have businesses), so thankfully I have lots of counsel I can turn to. In addition, I would recommend learning economics instead of pure accounting for business. Nowadays, a lot of accounting is handled by software, and (according to my relatives) it would be much better to study economics and simply know the basics behind accounting and how to use accounting software.

In the end your major is only really important for your first job. After that, it simply turns into a reference point just like your previous jobs will be. My family tells me to major in what I am interested in; the rest you can learn yourself as long as you have the drive and desire.

Healthcare is always steady. Teaching - if that interests you - is useful but you may have to search heavy for the post you want.

I hear doctors get paid x3 more in US than UK - now med is a great field to hit up, i certainly would if i lived there.

Those at the top of their career grade at consultant level or specialist are on a good 100 K a year in the UK, even GP's are churning out 100K plus salaries today in the UK.

Having said that, I don't think you'd go into medicine for the money. I mean it is very very very hard work in terms of the ongoing learning & exams you have to continually take & pass to proceed to each & every step of the way beyond the 5-6 year medical degree. This is in addition to the very long hours you are expected to undertake on a long term basis & be on call 24 7.

These folk work very hard to get where they are & the robust intellectual, financial & time demands are very high. This route is not for the faint hearted.

if you go to med because of the money then you are in the wrong profession as you should be there cause you want to help people.

Since you like working with kids then yea teaching, guidance consular, professor, psychologist for autism kids, or anything else really.

But remember this that a degree is worthless now as you must do a graduate school to find a great job and great money.

I decided to concentrate on my eBay business rather than go to university. I have not regretted my descision.

It seems so hard to find a job even with a degree today that I wondered why I should bother with it, so the tuition fees will have effectively gone to waste. Plus eBay pays far better than any jobs available today, and I feel great just being able to call myself a businessman.

I will make far more than those graduates will... they will just be left with huge amounts of debt and struggle to pay them off. I did not want part in any of that.

I majored in BOTH of those fields, IT & Business Administration, they are VERY competitive.

i think with today's economically climate you need to be majoring in a sustainable job sector/field..something that won't be replaced and always be needed few good examples- medical jobs like a doctor as people said..lawyers as people said..tourism is good too (people always want to travel)...anything like that..

It's critical to choose a major that you're passionate about. Regardless of how high paying a medical career is if you don't like the job then it's not worth the tradeoff. Personally, I like ever major there is as long as it requires critical thinking. For example, forensics, computer science, and law. However, I don't suggest you get a degree in law because there currently aren't too many jobs.

You should understand that real education doesn't come from college. It doesn't matter if you get a degree. If you don't like your major, then you won't excel at it. Real education comes from specialized knowledge. That means that after you get a degree, you need to keep learning until you excel beyond anyone's expectations. It is wise to learn only if you want to and that motive can only come from something you're passionate about.
