Is information shared/checked with other countries ebays when going through the PostIdent process? Or is it just to make sure you are who you say you are?
I have everything unlimited and this is not a requirement, only for 'top rated seller' and discounts which I want.

The postident is only used in DE for verifying the ID. The process is simple. The person who wants to get identified goes to any post office. There he/she presents a valid ID ( the one best used is the "personalausweis" - ID card. Passports will not work since they do not show an address. Unless presented with a recent "Meldeschein"
The clerk will check the ID presented - that means he will just look at the pic and see if its the face of the presenter. No actual check will be performed. Then the presenter will get a confirmation with postal seal and sig . Done
