Default PS3 slow

asking this question on behalf of someone else, who is saying PS3 slow and keeps freezing, want to see if simple solution.

says he did an 'update' that was not required, but he did it as came up with random errors like 'lost connection' the system update was called version 4.21. and that is when it slowed down - maybe it is coincidence.

checked HDD and it is half full. Could it be HDD is damaged?

internet is not the issue as it is high speed type.

what happens with system restore or restore to default settings? does it get rid of all his special paid-for downloads, DLC..

I dont know anything about PS3, only played it a few times.

If the hard drive is "damaged" and still turns on then it will simply have bad sectors. Bad sectors can cause system slow down but I dont think it's the hard drive. Looks like a bad case of firm ware update or bad update. Maybe he can go back to the old firm ware version.

It might be the update itself.

I have 2 PS3s for the family.

One was updated, After that, it would crash, not log in, be super slow when it did.

Try and google a patch for the update in question and you might solve the issue.

If you use system restore, once you connect to the net again, you'll still have your Downloads and purchases as long as you have access to your PSN name.

WARNING: make sure the system restore is the ABSOLUTE LAST OPTION though. It will wipe the drive and COULD hit your trophies and achievements. Not saying it always will, but Ive had issues with that before.

Its a patch for the system itself
Here is a forum link about it: PS3 Version 4.21 Update problem will be solve - PlayStation® Community Forums

As well as: Firmware 4.21 issues - Controller and PS3 slow dow... - PlayStation® Community Forums

Apparently, others are having issues with it concerning netflix and video and the slow down.

I think you will just have to wait to see what sony does to fix it, or give them a call to see how to reverse it/uninstall an update

no problem.

I asked my hubby, but you might also try re-establishing the internet connection.

Try a direct PS3 connect (attach the Ethernet cable directly to the PS3)

if that doesnt help, then try to re-establish the wifi. (run the PS3 through its connection paces again)

or even try port forwarding....complicated and I have NO clue on how to do it even with the link...
Heres a link though:

Try the port forwarding thingy last.

Its the only other thing I can really think of. 250 for another system is a pain in the bum though.

I was going to say, get around the wifi and direct connect with a cable. I changed the frequency on my modem/router to 40ghz, instead of 20ghz, and it blazes now.
