Default Paypal checking MAC address

Does paypal monitor MACs when you are not logged in and just making a purchase from a website?

I don't believe paypal monitors the MAC at all.

Oh, they don't? Damn, I have been spoofing my MAC on each account. This is a hassle and very time consuming with broadcom drivers as they don't like to spoof.

The thing that can get you is if you fill out a web form on a certain website and go to checkout only to be redirected to PayPal, that information can get passed on to PayPal. That's always fun. The unsuspected PayPal taking website.

Yeah, using bs (non-paypal) info and gift cards online is always a good idea just in case. I'm glad they don't check MACs though... that saved my ass on this one... if they did I probably would of linked two accounts.

I've been a network technician and programmer for many years. There are ways to get a MAC address, but it would need to be done with a Java applet or some sort of program running on the person's machine that sends the information. In any way, you would have to "authorize" it.

Only the "hop" next to you can see the MAC address. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can see it, but the next hop already can't. When you send a website request, it goes through around 8-12 hops on average. If you're in the UK and eBay is in California, it goes through hops located in the UK, US East Coast, then through several major cities until it gets to California. Nobody can see your MAC address except the one right next to you, which is almost always your ISP, and certainly not eBay. For eBay to see your MAC address, you would have to be in the same building as eBay.

And I'm not aware of eBay running any Java applets on anyone's computer. And with Flash it can't be done either. Flash has no networking capabilities to that extent.

I have no idea about Amazon, because I've never sold there, ever.

I only know what's technologically possible and what isn't. MAC tracking outside your own local network definitely isn't, unless again it's via some sort of Java applet. But you'd get a popup box on your screen asking you to authorize this applet and I've never seen eBay or PayPal do that.

I would say Amazon probably does browser fingerprinting. Do a search here, there are quite a few topics on it.

Once I wanted to dump an amazon acct for some reason I can't remember, anyway I tried logging into a very old acct that was suspended but still alive for buying in the same user acct, IP of the alive acct... Nothing happened!
I know for sure that amazon doesn't keep info for centuries like Ebay/PP but still that was odd.
