I only disagree because the penny saved me when I needed food on my mouth.
I saved them in jars out of my families habits for many decades, then forgot about them.
A time came when we were down and out, LITERALLY.
With the little food we had left, I fed my children while my husband and I went to bed hungry. Its not a nice feeling. We were living paycheck to paycheck and the bills were due.
My parents always taught me: Pay your rent first, you can get food from anywhere.
My husband and I were not at the point where we needed to beg for food.
I then remembered that we had the water jugs of pennies in our basement, just collecting dust in the far back.
Cashed them in and had around $325 dollars that I promptly went food shopping with.
Fed us for the rest of the month.
I don't knock them at all.
