Default rubbish printer

got an all in one HP printer/scanner.

I checked the ink levels and the black is low and colour is ok, I did a head clean and alignment page etc.

my issue is;

now the colour prints out with too much red.

also not used much, but the cartridges run out so quick.

Not sure if relevant but lack of black has nothing to do with colour printing too much red right? also it prints alignment page but will not recognise it to scan.

Are you using original or compatible ink? Most of these issues are caused by compatible ink or crappy ink cartridges.

really? I use compatible, because the original ink is way more expensive. I do not fill my own, I just buy compatibles from places like amazon.

Yes, 99% of printer problems are attributed to bad ink cartridges.

Sometimes "Compatible Cartridges" work, and sometimes they don't.

HP is VERY bad with compatible cartridges, sometimes they will not even accept them. I have a Brother 240C all in one and it works wonderfully with $1 ink. Stay away from HP if you want to save $ on ink

Stay away from Epson - I wouldn't have another Epson printer as a gift with a £20 note attached - utter garbage

the older ones have a better chance. if you bought it 5 years ago then it was made 6-7 years ago. back then they did not worry so much about these compatible cartridges. now i have seen HP printers where i put in a compatible and it said please install genuine cartridge.

This is why I use a toner all in one printer

color ink is a scam with the way they control the ink

HP, cheap printers but the ink and user friendliness is a poor joke.

I got a new one for 20 quid a few months ago. But all the hassle with getting after-market cartridges to work and trying to work out how to make it stop popping up messages after I print (apparently it's impossible) make me want to set fire to it, hang draw and quarter it and then parade it around town.

Was a total false economy, I will never ever ever buy HP again. Ever.

Anyone want to buy a printer?

Bad move.

The different companies advise on their sites to avoid using OEM ink.

HP printers have a tendency to get blocked easily. Using inferior inks hastens their demise. Last HP I did not even get 60 hours usage.

Which model do you have?

Did you do a PDI test image

actually, my mistake they are original cartridges.

this printer is hardly used, think it is out of warrantly though. It came with 2 sets of colour/black ink and this is second set. black is low, colour is half full ...

so yeah, original ink in there..

on the diagnostic page do all the colors look proper? does it come out as a solid color? if they do not then the problem should just be low ink. if these are the cartridges that came with the printer, they usually do not put too much ink inside. let me know if any of this helps, if not i will keep looking. as far as the scan not working, are you using a usb extender cable?

Get a laser printer that uses Toner.
1 cartridge may cost $100 - $150 USD but it will last over a year or more.
I got a nice one about 4 years ago.
Best investment I ever made.....

the squares on alignment page and print head clean page that got printed off, are solid, but you can see horizontal stripes in them with slight variences in colour.

black has run out, but I have another printer - my old black and white printer (yeah with toner)

I got this printer for the odd occasion I need colour, it was colour and wireless and fairly cheap.

the lines in it just means that they are low on ink. i would try to replace the cartridges. on this printer i believe you can just put one of the two cartridges in so just buy the color one if that's what you need it for. when you are taking out the cartridge, try to blot around and see if there is any 'loose' ink and wipe if off with a paper towel. let me know how it goes

yeah maybe the ink level monitor is deceptive, I will try a change in cartridge, just very expensive for so few prints....
