Arrow PayPal Blocking Old, Insecure Browsers

HI< Heres an article I read today,:
thought I'd share it..

PayPal Blocking Old, Insecure Browsers
by Tim Stevens, posted Apr 19th 2008 at 3:48PM

Still rolling online using Internet Explorer 3.0, released almost 12 years ago? If so, you're doing the digital equivalent of walking around with your fly down, and it's well and truly time to upgrade. Don't take our word for it; take PayPal's. The online banking and payment service site is going to actively start blocking older, insecure browsers, including the once mighty IE 4.0, released way back in 1997, but still disturbingly popular.

PayPal is a very popular target for phishers, who send phony e-mails directing users to phony PayPal-lookalike sites, stealing their login info and, later, stealing their money. Newer browsers are able to highlight the address bar at the top in green when visiting a legitimate site and highlight it in red when the destination is a bit more shady, giving users a visual clue that they're about to get ripped off.

Wink Worse Than That

Did you also read that there will be a possible problem with Safari? This is
used by Modee and any other Mac users. Looking forward to hear thoughts on
this.

There has been mention of being able to use earlier versions of AOL for the
internet.

Man, all these new security measures lately......how long before they start asking what I had for breakfast?? Lol, luckily, Firefox and Opera work on popular operating systems, and let's face it, I know of not one reason why insecure dinosaurs like IE 3 should be used today. If Paypal allowed them and someone had his identity or account stolen, well, Paypal would probably get blamed.

If Paypal was smart they would tell the IE 3.0 users to update with firefox using the Google referral link, gaining them $1 each sign up. Or maybe it's just my affiliate marketer mind going.

I like Opera though, it doesn't crash on me like Firefox.

aspkin, Has/does Firefox crash because of the amount of whatever it is you do? I am
using it but just changed IP provider & I notice differences. Still waiting for my Mac.

I use Firefox, IE, and Opera on WinXP Pro. When I used Firefox on OS X, it was fairly buggy, at least the release I was using. Firefox has a large RAM footprint and several memory leaks that can cause it to become unstable or totally hang your system. Opera has a very small system footprint, but I rarely use it because it's not fully compatible with all web pages.

Question

ovidu, I have XP pro as well. I changed ISPs from DSL to mobilebroadband. Upgraded to latest Firefox.

A lot is different. Did a systems restore ( because that's about all I know) but things are
just not the same. Any suggestions?

I use Opera on my windows vista pc, work perfectly fine. Safari on my mac work fine too.

As ovidiu said, firefox take too much resources and IE is too vulnarable. Opera + CCleaner is definitely the best combination!

Just a quick tip:
I recently found out that for quick anonymus access to PPal and eBay, proxylord.com works, just enter PayPal, then on new page check Accept cookies and refresh, you will be able to hide your IP and it works fast. Other free anonymizers cut cookies and therefore don't work with PPal. You can also use ipchicken.com before loading PPal just to make sure IP is changed.
However if you want to be consistent with IP you use, then you must subscribe to findnot.com or similar and use the same VPN every time.

Hope I didn't hijacked the tread.
Cheers!

D.
