Activity: 0% Longevity: 96% | | eBay doesn't give a poop where the IP comes from...
I have come to that conclusion, seriously. PayPal cares, but eBay doesn't. Why? I met a guy at the post office the other day who runs 2 eBay accounts, one in Australia, the other one in the United States. Both of the accounts are with 100+ feedback and he's actively selling for the past 4 months. The funny thing is, he's in Japan. He's never even been to Australia or the United States in his life and he's using Japanese IPs to connect to these accounts. To top it off, he's shipping from Japan, too.
What the hell |
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!

That won't be a huge problem. The problem occurs when the IP changes locations OFTEN, and you change personal information on the account like the password, address, etc. Other factors will probably trigger a limitation like unusual listing of items, etc.

oh, hats arent that big of vero items, plus its hard to tell if a hat is ⊗⊗⊗⊗, there are many factors in identifying if its authentic or its a ⊗⊗⊗⊗, maybe vero lets it pass because they think hes selling legit merchandise.

The different IP isn't a problem. It's just that his IP ranges are VERY different from a normal user. He's using Japanese IPs for US accounts and eBay doesn't shoot him down. I have to say, I don't know if he's selling real or ⊗⊗⊗⊗ hats, I just saw them when he packed them at the post office and the amount that he sold them for so I assumed they were ⊗⊗⊗⊗, unless Nike hats sell for $15 in stores now.

imjustme,you can get nike hats in stores for $15. I am assuming you live in Japan. If so, then they cost hella more. Say, if you live in japan, how is yahoo auctions japan and why don't you sell on there? They yahoo auctions asia kills ebay. I wish I could sell on there, freaking language barrier....

They all kill ebay in terms of traffic. In fact ebay never entered Japan because of ownage by yahoo. ebay taiwan was killed by yahoo auctions, and ebay singapore's traffic is like ummm pitiful.

Lizard, I find it cuts both ways. Sometimes ebay are reasonable and sometimes paypal are
as well. {did I type that?}

I've found if I make a buyer account and the IP isn't geotargetted right, that ebay will either demand a credit card before registering or else it won't let the account bid until it gives ebay a credit card or joins paypal and gives paypal a bank account.

Well my Powerseller eBay account was registered in Australia in 2004. I moved to Paris in 2005 and I was using my eBay Australia account until Feb 2008 while I was living in France. I was also shipping from france and I never had a problem, they never suspended me for that.
I also lived in the caribbean for 3 months and I was accessing my eBay Australia account and I even created an eBay France account and I wasn't suspended either.....
eBay have there ways sometimes....
All my accounts were suspended after that for a different reason altogether...Never had a problem with PayPal though...

...withoutit, i now think that a lot will depend on how the accounts are used. Low-key buying, low-key selling, regardless of country do seem to be OK. {touch wood}.

I think your right Ms GreenBean....For example, I didn't really buy that much and I changed IP's at least 3 - 5 times in France and nothing happened....In 3 years I got about 4 to 5 violations from eBay but they never seemed to care about my IP....I also think that eBay have different risk monitoring systems for different countries...It's better to try and sell safely and that way no flags will be raised where ever you are...just like the japanese guy...
