Default PayPal account limited, alternatives that are less strict about what is being sold?

hi,

i received an email from paypal today that my account is limited due to me breaking their user agreement policy.

it lists three transactions... my money is held for 180 days, then it says they will review their exposure and let me withdraw if there are any exceeding funds left afterward.

"review our exposure"? what does that even mean???

anyway i called their customer service to try to figure out what part of their user agreement i had broken.
the customer service rep was very unhelpful and just kept saying he don't know and there is no way of finding out either.

when i kept insisting on speaking to a supervisor he got annoyed with me and i realized i wasn't getting anywhere...

Is it normal that they refuse to explain exactly what part of the agreement has been broken?

Welcome to the forum

All the above simply means is that you, as the paypal user, did not read or understand a thing about their practices.

Everything you described is fairly typical of how they operate.

I'll specially address one point ''review our exposure''. paypal decided approx. 2 years ago, to be even more brutal with releasing funds after holding them for 180 days. If they perceive anything not correct, they gave themselves the right to take money.

Please read through your own country's paypal site.
http://paypal.dk

Should you have further questions, I'll be happy to attempt to reply to them.

Your situation is common. What were you using paypal services for? Even that can have bearing on overall treatment.

Welcome to the forums.

Sadly, pp can be quite annoying to deal with. Part of the game - learn stealth and understand the game better.

All the best.

Thanks for the welcome's everyone. :-)

Well they are holding all my money, not just the transactions in question. Altogether I have about $600 on there. I know it might seem like peanuts to some, but for me those are hard earned money and I cannot afford to just lose them.
I was selling DVD's with old TV programs (specifically public domain or commercially unavailable material) which I believe someone have made false accusations about being pirate copies or imitations of commercial DVD releases, which is complete lies. Why do PayPal always take the buyer's side, and won't even listen to anything the seller have to say? I wrote them and asked what I need to do to prove to them that the accusations are false, and they have been done by a competitor to f**k my business up, but they say under no circumstance will they overturn their decision and won't give me a chance to prove my side of the story.
I actually wrote a seperate thread specifically about the items I sold and asked for suggestions, but for some reason that thread is not appearing. Not sure why.

So about the "review our exposure"... If they perceive anything not correct, like what? What they asked me to do was remove PayPal as a payment option on my website, and remove all PayPal logos etc. If I do those things, do you think they will release the funds to me?

Regardless I guess I'll just remove my website and reopen it under a new name / new URL / new PayPal account.

One last question, which I did start a thread about, but again that never appeared either... Say, if I have a PayPal account, and I move all funds out of it (withdraw all funds to my bank account). Once the transaction is finished and the funds are on my bank statement, is there any way for PayPal to take that money back? For example if a buyer files a complaint against me, normally PayPal would temporarily hold the funds until the dispute is resolved, but if there are no funds in the account what happens? Do I just get a minus until someone makes a payment, or will PayPal forcifully take the money out of my bank account? sorry if the question is stupid, but it never happened to me so I just wanted to know.

Thank you for reading.

nope, they would need a lawyer for this.

also, would it be possible to funnel some of the money back through refunds?

i once had 200€ frozen by paypal, i ask some of my customers if they would be willing to send me the money via bank transaction, and they did.

once my balaned reached 0,something i got unfrozen, what a coincidence, donīt you think?

I have had an experience where PayPal has taken funds from my PayPal account. I was able to work it out with my bank and PayPal, though perhaps an expert could weigh in. After this I began moving my funds to my savings acct vs my chk account on file. I would ask the experts if this would flag your PayPal acct. You are accountable for a transaction for 180 days (which is the amount of time a consumer can issue a dispute with their cc)--I am by no means an expert and PayPal continues to add new ways to limit their liability.
