Default PayPal just took hundreds from my account

So I logged into my bank online today, and saw one of my accounts was negative $400. I then logged on to Paypal, and saw that my Paypal account had been limited out of the blue, and Pp reversed all payments I had received and successfully took them out of my account.

I dont understand why the bank would allow a $400 withdraw when there was no money in the account in the first place. Anyways I called the bank and told them it wasn't authorized and opened a claim, so I should be getting it back.

My concern is how to stop this from happening again. How do I prevent paypal from taking money out of my account, I have researched the site and seen telling the bank to not allow any withdrawals from Paypal is one way, but does anyone have any more tips or advice in how to stop this from happening again?

Thanks in advance.

When you sign up you sign their terms and agreements. Once you do that, they can take money from where ever credit/debit card you put or bank account you put down. Only way not to take money is by not using paypal at all.

Read the small print

You signed up for this when you opened the account

It's authorised alright

You probably won't get it back as it would have been in the t and c's

PP have you by the strawberries as usual

Sad but true

The banking in Spain must work differently as this happened to me, and when I contacted the bank they refunded me immediately. I just told them that I had not authorised the withdrawal from my account.

I had the same problem in the past. My bank could not help even though, I complained about it ( I was lucky that everything was under my real info.)

Thanks for all the responses.
About 6 months ago, I had an account go negative because of a chargeback a buyer filled 2 months after receiving the item. I never paid Paypal, and the money was never once taken out of my bank account, this whole time I've been thinking I did something different that prevented them from withdrawing out of my account??

Thus the reason to not leave more then needed in your pp account.

They have the right to clean you out whenever they want.

I leave enough to cover a few refunds and my bill and take the rest out.

Bank wont help and might even close your account if they see something they dont like.

What you need to do now is attend to paypal touching that bank account further.

Are you aware that MUST be done?

If you do nothing, you may risk overdrawn fees. They will become a real lot very quickly.
