Default What is the "Seller Vetting Department"?

I called ebay just a few minutes ago to see about increasing my selling limit. The lady I spoke with transferred me to another person, who I found out was in Trust and Safety. He told me that they only increase selling limits to 50 items or $3500 in his department, which I have surpassed and said I need to call back tomorrow and speak with someone in the "Seller Vetting Department". What is that department? Every time I have called ebay to increase selling limit, I have just talked to some regular customer service rep and they went on their way and increased the limit.

Right now I am at 50 items / $5000 per month and just last week I reached Power Seller and Top Rated Seller status.

That means they are going to Smoke you out and dig up any crap to ban your account if they find anything harmful.

Our current President was Never Vetted and you see where that got us.

So basically don't call them back and just leave my limit at 50/$5000....or am I already flagged and about to be reamed anyways?

I have 25 auctions up now that have been going since yesterday with no issues...12 of them ending in 2 hours. I just sold 4 things that ended last week and just shipped them over the weekend. So they're still letting me sell....for now.

If you call them back then you will really raise a Warning Flag

At this point I would be prepared for a phone call in case they want to talk to you.

Most likely you'll be ok.

Keep us updated.

Good Luck.

Alright, I won't call them. Hopefully they will sweep me under the rug and not bother me. Who knows with ebay anymore. If SHTF, I will come back here in a panic lol.

Panic can be avoided in future given that you have joined the forum.

Instead of going to ebay, come to us 1st with questions. Usually we have the replies & they are better than SHTF with ebay.

My account is only just over 4 months old, 50 items / $5000 limit. In my first two months I sold over $24,000 and didn't have any trouble with ebay. In December they did a "soft restriction" only on my sellers account stating that if I went over the limit during December, I would be permanently restricted from selling.

Needless to say, I stayed under the limit and at the end of December called them and they bumped me up to 50 / $5000. Figured I would call this month and get bumped again but they pull this "seller vetting" thing and I am wondering if they are going to give me the ban hammer or what.

I will just hold off...hopefully they will forget about me and move on.

You're in the Loop, so no stopping now.

Just be prepared as I stated before. Invoices, supplier info, etc...

Don't be nervous, I usually yell at them and get them riled up.

I have it all already...they pegged me in December with the supplier info, invoices, etc. along with ID. That's when we had the soft restriction and got that lifted. Paypal did the same thing at that time and we got reinstated within a day or so. Then Paypal limited our account once again just two weeks ago and we got reinstated...spoke with a guy in the risk management department directly and account was back up with two days.

Now if ebay wants to go at it yet again....OK, let's do it - but it's getting old.

As your account ages and they can monitor your stats then it will get easier.

As of today, they don't Trust you.

You have to earn it.

Even gaining PS and TRS status means very little?

We have had 120+ seller transactions with 100% positive feedback...on the ones where the buyers actually left feedback and DSR's. 5.0's on all with 60+ ratings in each category. I mean, sure it's not a TON of seller feedback and ratings, but it must prove something as to the type of seller we are.

So say I do not call them back and I just continue listing as usual, should I expect a restriction in the near future with a "submit this info" or "contact us" request? Just trying to prepare.

How did you 24K if you had a limit of 5K per month?

Ebay will NOT pull listings if you go over your limit. You just won't be able to post anymore auctions for the month. You can only list X amount of items OR X dollar amount.

We listed X items and the auctions ended over X dollar amount.

This is how we got pegged in December.

When we first went to sell, we had the 10 item / $500 limit. We linked an established account and got I believe 25 or 30 items and $1500 limit. We went over in October and sold right under $10,000. Called and had them bump it up and they went to 50 / $3000. Went over again, $14,000 and they nailed us at the end of November saying we were on 30 day "probation" or whatever and if we went over the selling limit again during that time we would be booted permanently.

Stayed under the limit at that time, the 30 days was up on the 17th. So I called ebay again on the 27th and the limit was bumped to 50 / 5000. This month I stayed under the limit to play it safe, was trying to get it bumped again but I guess they don't like me. Even though I've had no issues...small business FTL

High risk. I've already provided invoices to ebay and paypal regarding the first limitations they imposed. I believe that was November. I was reinstated in one or two days.

Opened our account in September of last year, made the first sale of $400 on the 27th. After that - $10,000 in October and they didn't even bat an eye. I had the 21 day hold on the paypal at the time since it was a new account as well. Funds were always released to me within 3 days of the buyers receiving their items. I think that may have been a factor as well...Paypal having control over the funds so if there were any issues, they wouldn't be eating the cost.

The 21 day hold dissipated at the 90 day mark, but I haven't had any buyer issues so not sure why they're throwing this vetting crap at me now.

That's not entirely true, i had ebay pull a listing because i had already went over the cap.

And might i recommend spreading out? Don't go too crazy and put all your eggs in one basket. SPREAD SPREAD SPREAD!!

My rules are... I lose 1 account, i make 3 more. I slowly build them up, now if you're losing accounts daily or weekly.. You're doing something wrong, losing multiple accounts in a week happens, but it's very rare and if it does happen, you did something to make it happen... eg.. bad ratings etc... I have old TRS accounts that are getting funds held right now, because they fell to ABOVE STANDARD... Be-careful!!

From looking at your situation it looks like you went a bit to far. You weren't staying under the radar. You did way to much sales before the 90 day period on eBay/selling. Basically the 90 day period it's about them trusting you. They want you to have positive feedback , best DSR , & taking things slow. From what in the past , I try to attempt to achieve TR & PS within their asking lowest requirements which is 100 transaction/ $1000 for TR with PS being 100/$3000.00. I attempt to do this within the 90 day mark. After the 90 day mark i call them to increase my limits if I haven't had any issue with them such as restrictions etc. Sometimes i dont even call. It automatically increases even before the 90 days. Just in my opinion and the way i work thing. Hope this helped!

Nice one.

Sounds like you are working like a professional.

I like your approach to this. Precise, matter of fact.

My golden rule is and will always be:

NEVER CALL EBAY TO ASK FOR A SELLING LIMITS INCREASE.

I never had them pull a listing on me. Once it goes over, all the listings finish up and then I just cant list until the following month.

This is our own account...not stealth. I am thinking I will wait until they contact me or restrict me rather than call them. Provide whatever info they want and hopefully gandalf will let me pass. If not, guess I will try different routes.
