Default How do i pull cash of gift cards: follow up 09/18/2013

Recently I tried to get cash off my Visa gift cards by using PAYPAL, but of course the account was limited. And with Visa gift cards, you can't get cash back at stores because theres no PIN number assigned. Question. Is there any other way to get cash of a VISA GIFT CARD besides PAYPAL....

Mobile credit card platforms - like Square.com...you get a small terminal to attach to your phone and you do cashout of the card.

BUT...

if you do too many gift cards, your account will be closed.

One example I have given

Here are a few options:

- Buy an amazon gift card for the full amount, sell something from Amazon on ebay that would cover the cost of the item + fees, withdraw money to bank account (this would work with other retailers as well).

- Offer to pay for a friend's or family relative's shopping with the visa card and get cash instead.

- I deposit my visa cards into a forex account. I'm not sure how withdrawing it would work but you may be able to withdraw it to an account from there would work.

If you have a chase bank account in the US, you can go to a teller and they will cash it into your account I've done this a couple of times.

Square will shut you down quickly if you use too many gift cards.

I just keep em in my wallet and use them for day to day purchases. After each purchase I write the new balance on the back of the card so I can keep my ducks in a row.

Since Square knows it is a gift card from the number they will not allow you to use many.

It is for using a debit or credit card and not gift cards.

They will let you run a few in here and there as long as you use debit and credit cards.

If someone is planning on using nothing but gift cards thinking they will get away with it they will shut the account down.

There is a thread here somewhere that I think they used 11 gift cards with no other cards and Square closed their account.

I also have knowledge of it from reading in a money and financial forum I post on that others have had multiple closings of their Square accounts using gift cards they received for Christmas and had to call and get their accounts back.

Does the period of time these gift cards are charged make a difference?
I mean if I use 11 gift cards in one day I can see how that would be an issue - but how about 1 gift card every 2 days or so? Would that work?
Just trying to make my life easier.

No rhyme or reason with them. Seems they are shaky also.

But I do know they dont like gift cards period.

If you use them for very small amounts and in a short period of time you might get away with it the first time but Square will see it in time and shut your account down.

I guess Square has no designs on prying away any Paypal customers with this type of behaviour.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Pretty cocky for being the new kid on the block with the sole intention of taking away pps business.

Square forced pp to get their own android swiper.

Yes I have one account got closed for too many gift cards but...I made 5 accounts and rotate works very nicely.

Also - if you have $1+ on a gift card, I have used it to pay for cellphone and cable bills without problem.

If you have a real credit card as well, you can safely do 2 cards a week...even 3 - just toss in a real credit card to be safe if you can afford a couple of dollars swipe.

Great if you have a point reward card on purchases
