Default Can I send item without retail packaging as a new item

Hey guys

Thats my first post here and I just want to say great forum and I already learned a lot here. Okay let me get to my point. I just started of with a whitehat Amazon account to have an additional sales channel. Signed up for a pro account and listed a few items.

As far as I am aware after 3 month beeing a pro you are getting into contention for winning the buy box. I also learned that only new items showing in the buy box.

I am importing from China and to save shipping costs my supplier unpacks the items so I sell them without retail packaging. They are non brandend so no issue there. My question now is can I offer items without retail packaging as a new item on Amazon or would this bring me into trouble regarding my feedback score?

I have seen people that are brand new seller with no feedback "Just launched" in the buy box so I think that has changed.

It depends on the listing, if the listing says "retail box" or the main listing picture shows a retail box (not customer's pics), then you have to include a retail box.

I have sold items new in bulk polybag packaging without the retail box. Just be aware that even if it doesn't say retail box or have a picture of one, you will get complaints and negative feedback for not having it. I have been able to get most of this feedback removed, just ask Amazon to remove it and say that it is not advertised to come in a retail box.

"I am importing from China and to save shipping costs my supplier unpacks the items so I sell them without retail packaging." They are likely high copies and not genuine so be very careful.

As long as your description describes how it comes you SHOULD be OK however the busting of chops is always possible in this case

Most buyers do not and will not read condition notes so do not rely on that.

However, what I do when there are important condition notes, I will send the a message shortly after the purchase. Message like this;

"Thank you for your recent order. Please take a moment to read the condition notes if you already haven't. There is important information about your item."

If you send something like this you will rarely get complaints. Also, if you are fulfilling the order I will highlight the condition notes on the packing slip.

That is just silly talk. There's no reason to not read them unless you are purchasing from the top portion of the page which is an exception not a rule

I'm not talking about the title and description, I am talking about the condition notes that the seller can add.
I can tell you for a fact that most customers do not read them. I'm sure many sellers here can attest that they have put things in the description notes and the customer complained anyway.

Comments like "item has scratch on the screen" and then the buyer gets it and complains there is a scratch on the screen.

Since I have been using the strategies I explained there are no surprises with the customer.

Just because the customer complains does not mean they not read it. They complain because they can, the same like ebay. Its ridiculous to say that you know for sure that people don't read it because that's just ridiculous.

I can say that from experience. I think it's good advice, if you don't want to use it that's fine. You seem to be a very argumentative person.

Well, no reason to get off to the wrong foot with each other. I didn't mean to come across as a know it all.

I apologize if I did. Just saying how I see it based on my experience.

From the amount of posts you have done, you seem like a good person to share knowledge with.

All of us are in this together and I'm sure we can learn from each other.

I would be starting to question the shipping costs , packaging isnt heavy as a rule.
Surely for an easy life you just retain the packaging .
Makes the product look better also .

I have sold items off pallets and make darn sure at the top of my description.

This item is new without box or this item is new and in its original box.

If you hide this down in the description and send one without the box believe me the buyer will be back and all over you.

Even though they will toss the box in most cases, your description has to be clear and near the top when it comes to things like this.

Heck, I sold an item with the box and one with out once and the buyer who paid less for the item without the box demanding a small refund because the original box was not in it.

Line two of description---

SOLD WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURES BOX

Some buyers are stupid and or seen the other one had a box and expected it as well.

I agree with Kelly, if your picture and description shows a box then you best send the box with it.

If there is a photo of a box but the item arrives without one, I am hacked off.

I buy because I want the item as 'displayed'/photographed. I do not want different
That is my expectation of the purchase

It's not just the weight, it's the volume.I have dealt with many companies in China and have compared prices with and without retail box and there can be a big difference in cost. You would be surprised how many pieces they can get in one box when they are just in a polybag.

I have had customers complain because of boxes or something extra they saw in a customer's uploaded image and have to explain to them that it is not part of the listing.

As also in most of my listing tell people the photo is part of my description please review all photos before bidding.

Did this because of the moron who bought an item, returned it because she said it did not match her decor.

Photos are a part of the listing.

I buy mainly from the photo. I expect to get everything in the photo and I believe the customer should also.

I look at the description, feedback etc to make my final decision but nothing ticks me off more then seeing 4 items in a picture and when the box shows up you have 3 items. Then seller said you must not have looked at my other listings as I have that item in another listing. Nice try!

I bought a pair of sandals a while back, picture shows brand new with tags and a box. Get them and no tag, no box. Asked seller why?

She said you are buying from my description and not the photo as it is a stock photo. No where in the description did it state you would not get a box and did state brand new with tags.

That's why I charge a restocking fee on some items. The funny thing is that nobody has ever left negative feedback for having to pay a restocking fee. It's probably because I let people know upfront in the listing, send them a message after the sale and highlight it in the packing slip. My returns went way down after doing this for those particular items. I was getting tired of people using the item for a few months and then requesting a return and saying "no longer needed"

You really have to be clear as some buyers believe you are there to provide them with a rental service.

And the "professional buyers" we have to deal with are worse. They are on ebay and amazon all day long just waiting to find a sucker seller who is scared.

are you guys creating your own items on amazon? i think this might be where our earlier confusion came from. i rarely create new items and the customer would need to read my description before buying it.
