Can't add bank account to business paypal

I just upgraded my personal paypal to a business account.

I am trying to add a bankaccount to my paypal now. I always get the error "wrong account number". It says the account number needs to be between 1 and 16 characters. Where I live account numbers are also IBAN numbers. And an IBAN number is 21 characters/numbers long.

Somewhere I read you can't add a personal bank account to a business paypal, but it didn't ask for any name on the bank account yet.

Anybody had the same problem? thanks

Which pp website - UK or is it .CH?

paypal has had issues all week with users adding bank accounts as you said.

It is also sometimes difficult to get the correct codes off a Swiss account.

You may need to get paypal themselves to add the account manually.

Can you confirm the country please?

hi, thanks for the replies.

the country is switzerland. just checked my credit card which I have also registered with pp. The CC has a 16 character account number. Also took a look at another debit card I have and this card shows an account number different from the IBAN number.

I think I'll have to call my bank on monday and ask what the correct account number is. I don't think it's pp's fault since my number just exceeds their 16 character limit.

I have seen this issue with this before.

that IBAN and sometimes the SWIFT numbers make it hard to determine which to use.
It may even turn out to be a slightly different number that you would have no chance of recognising until the bank tells you.

Please let us know the outcome.

just found some documentation on the website of my bank.

the IBAN looks like this CH31 8123 9000 0012 4568 9

CH = is the country code
31 = is the bank code
81239 is the clearing number of the bank
000 0012 4568 9 = is the account number of the individual

I will try to enter these details in pp tomorrow. I hope they'll accept it because I read somewhere you need a business bank account (in the name of the business) for a business paypal account (matching names).

ok, I was able to add my bank account when I only entered the part of the IBAN which obviously resembles the account number.

Don't know why they don't accept the IBAN, because it has much more information to make a successful transaktion. Now they only have the name of my bank and my account number. good luck pp on making a transaktion.

As GB stated, paypal have be having some glitches - are you doing the 2 step deposit to verify? Hope they go through - let the forum know please.

How to I make this "2 step deposit"? I thought paypal does this automatically. It doesn't say anywhere verify account or something like that. under "status" it just says "Primary".

But the company name I entered in paypal does not match the name of my bank account because it is my personal name. Does that matter? do they notice this?

It's a simple reason, nico.

Swiss banking is far better than other banks elsewhere in the world.

As you found, the info on a Swiss bank account is much more useful. Other countries simplified their system with disadvantages.

PP wont know unless you tell them. Money should go into the bank account regardless of name.
