Default Do you use "signature required" on expensive items?

I just sold a $400ish tablet on ebay. I was shipping priority mail. Should I pay the extra for signature required? The signature confirmation is only $2.20, but I didn't list it in my details.

Priority mail with signature confirmation is $11.83
Or, I could do Fedex home delivery (2 days) with indirect signature required and insurance on the package for $16.67

Thanks, and I need to print this label tonight.

Naturally.....thats what paypal says to do when items are over 250 bucks.
I do it on items 100 bucks and up.

Investing now will save headaches later...

For me anything 150-200ish I do this.

For this item and your price I would certainly do it to protect yourself.

ARE YOU CRAZY? ALWAYS use signature when u sell on ebay

even if the total profit is 1$, if the buyer or post office runs you over you only will lose that profit if signature and insurance isnt used properly.

Cheers!

If I add insurance with signature confirmation, it takes the total to $18.64.

Do most add insurance as well? Thanks, and I'm new to selling the big money items.

I always add insurance to the price or to handling.

Add to handling I always tell in my description that insurance has been added to your shipping total to protect you.

Thanks Sandy. I'm going to pay the extra money for signature and insurance to prevent future headaches. I appreciate the responses.

also make sure you record EVERY number you can that will identify this item.
Make sure of your buyer. Make sure the PayPal being used is verified and the shipping address is the one on file

Take every step you can to protect yourself

Thanks all. I also recorded myself packing, taping and weighing the package. Hopefully not necessary but nice to be prepared.

Yes, anything over $250 PayPal requires it. I personally like to do it on shipments over $120.

PayPal requires it on anything over $250.
This keeps you in compliance with their Seller Protection Policy,
It is also a US Banking requirement on anything shipped with a value over $250.

I do it on anything over £20 pretty much, so long as there is at least £5 profit in the item, but its only £1 or so extra for signature so in my eyes worth it.

Adding insurance and handling explicitly in your listing also helps to attract buyers who will understand that you are delivering quality - not rubbish or knock-off - buyers who are looking to scam MIGHT be thinking twice to deal with you...protection methods are always good.

@OP, for this transaction, your profit is reduced by ~9$...hardly a big loss as well - something to consider - do the signature...and electronic to boot? insure it.

Just my luck. I got this email from the buyer this morning.

Is there anyway you can change the delivery so it does not require signature confirmation? I work during the day and my gf is never at home. I'm having problems to get the XXX on my hands. If you are going to ask for a signature confirmation, it should be explicit on the add. Thanks

Now what do I do? When I track it, it says a notice was left on 5/11, and on 5/14.

you can not change the fact that signature confirmation is already on there however if you want to be nice you can ask for their work address and reroute the package there. depends on the amount of the item. i would think they already knew their schedule before they ordered the package so it's up to you on what to do

It was a $400ish tablet, and I didn't specify in the listing that I would require signature. I added it at the advice in this thread.

That's not something that is ever listedin the details. It is considered to be general knowledge. Maybe items under $250 should have that stated but otherwise you did absolutely nothing wrong. Your only option to satisfy the customer would be to reroute the item however I see no reason why they can't go on Saturday to; pickup their item. I would ask them if they could go pick up the item on the weekend before trying to reroute it

Just message the "professional buyer" to pick up his/her junk at the post office with the notice that they received.

I think I smell trouble in the future.
