Question Escalate To eBay or Give Refund? Advise Please

Hi, I have been selling different types of items ranging from digital products to IPad etc. Recently i sold a $50 gift card & shipped it to the buyer. However I shipped it without the tracking.

After 3 weeks of sale buyer says that he hasn't received the gift card yet and filed a dispute.

What should I do?
Give refund as I don't have the tracking for PP/EB?
Will they always favor the buyer and refund?
Will there be any problem if I let it go to PayPal escalation?
Will there be any risk to my EB or PP account?

Note: I have my EB account from 2008 or earlier with 100% positive feedback. M PayPal is more than 3 years old and can send around $1000 without any problem. Have done over 10k transactions with the PayPal without any problem.

Just give the refund and chalk it up as a loss.

The scrutiny, headache and risk of negative feedback on an account such as yours is just not worth it.

If you are able to sell ipads and digital items, you should be able to make the $50 + shipping + fees back in no time

Maybe the buyer didn't get it. Next time you must invest in tracking.
The open a dispute could close you down for good. Refund and close ASAP. Try to talk them into leaving you positive feedback by saying it was your error.

And yes, in this situation, pp is most likely to side with the buyer.

Without question do a refund. Look at what is at stake. You have 'older' accounts for both ebay & paypal.
Act to protect them.
Karma will get that buyer if there was dishonesty.
On the other hand you act well and reap the good results.
Good Luck

Without any form of tracking eBay will always favour the buyer as it see's them as being the innocent party. To be fair, in most cases they are right.

I used to provide proof of posting for my international orders, but eBay still favoured the buyer leaving me to claim for loses against the Royal Mail. Nothing lost financially, but it can take 10 weeks to resolve.

I couldn't agree more with the previous replies. You know you've done nothing wrong, but there's nothing to gain in fighting the dispute.

Swallow the loss and keep your account.

it happens, escpecially with gift cards, you should always use tracking etc, but with giftcards its most important as this area seems to attract the most scammers

For the sake of your accounts and future sales, just do the refund.

If you want to sell gift cards in the future, you must take steps to avoid these kind of buyers abusing you - state in your auction - buyer pays for tracking or so...gift cards are notorious for not being in a seller's favour.

The buyer took advantage of this seeing no tracking.

Refund as others pointed out.

Gift cards are a rough industry to sell. People just waiting to take advantage of
anything you do.

Personally, I alway's make them escalate to ebay.

The last thing professional buyers want is for you to escalate it to ebay where it gets logged.

Enough of these types of cases escalated and ebay will see a pattern and eventually call them on it.

In your case though you might as well refund. Let it be a lesson learned, alway's use tracking.

Buyers have been kicked off the platform for abusing the system, not just losing the protection

Which is why I personally alway's escalate if I feel the buyer is trying to get over on me.

It's even worth the negative feedback because I can abandon the account if I'm worried about the feedback. If it's a professional buyer with built up feedback, they will one day face the consequences of their actions.

We all know that ebay will crack down on them one day.

And let me help them come to that day if they cross me.

I also stand on that concept - I can deal with negative feedback when I am right about business

I see your point but on a 5 year old 100% account , I have trouble abandoning even a 3 month aged account, I'd just give the refund and next time put tracking

Makes it much easier when you have a couple of 5 year old 100% accounts - hint for future stealth building

Plan correctly in the 1st instance.

When you make an account, have an entire ( battle) plan.

Be prepared.

And remember when selling gift cards (and usb sticks), they have a high thief rate so its best to send them in a way to hide whats inside, as USPS workers sometimes steal them.

Talking

All ways use and upload tracking. If you do that and you call buyer protection on the phone argue your case and you win. I've won every case brought against me doing that.
