Default dont use WAMU banks - my opinion

WAMU banks are terrible. They worse than paypal.. They will close your account and take your $ with no reason... And many more problems including costumer service.. Then if you have $ there they wont let you take it off for weeks.. Im glad they just took my paypal deposits and not $ I was going to deposit.. One of my deposits bounced back to paypal. Terrible... now I have plug-in 2nd bank to paypal. This time it won't be wamu.. I looked it up un internet - wamu - so many complaints of $ dissapearing and never recovered.. Unbeliveable. Paypal is like angel compare to WAMU

HSBC Direct might be another option for you, have you tried it?

What happened to cause them to close your accounts? I don't see any logical reason for a bank to be doing this. Anyone else had any problems with money going in. I know that my ING accounts are gold in transfering money. I started using wamu myself and so far so good. But i would hate to have to watch wamu the same way as paypal.

wamu is good to hold money but if you ever need to call customer service FORGET IT. They are the worst. It is easy to open new wamu accounts from my house so I just use them to create new paypal accounts. Then transfer all of my money out of wamu and into wachovia. Wachovia is a great bank.

HI:
Wamu is pretty big.. I do not live near a branch, but theyve been very accommodating..
I cant see them taking someones money ?? Arent they under the auspicious of the Fed Govt??
Was there FRAUD involved? Are you in Check Systems? Was your ID ⊗⊗⊗⊗?
--Banks cannot just decide they need extra money for decorating or something and grab someones money.... I think either you are not understanding something??
They will send you a letter in the mail--
---OR< possibly-- are you a Junior or Senior? Maybe someone else has fraud??

p.s. Len... your post is gonna get alot of response from folks who are using wamu.. a little birdie just told me somethings amiss... (4/21)...

I have banked with wamu for several years with no problems. However that does not mean that there could not be problems down the road. I take comments like the OP's very seriously.

If you watch WAMU's stock you will see that it has tanked during the last year and that they have suspended their stock dividend. They were a very big player in the US home Mortgage market and they have taken massive losses because of that. My worry is that BWAMU would end up like CountryWide. To that end, I limit the balances in my WAMU accounts to under $500, so that I can easily withdraw it all at the first sign of trouble.

--Also over the last few years WAMU has been hit hard by fraud from identity thieves due to the ease in which they open accounts, perhaps they are now (like Ebay) over-reacting ?

A question for all you WAMU users. Does the name on the PayPal account need to match the name on the bank account or can you transfer funds to any name? Like if you open an account with "John Jones" on PayPal, you can deposit into the WAMU account under "Peter Petey"?

@Modee: I thought so. Its the same over here. I think it has to do with the fact that PayPal sends the funds with ACH or whatever its called, not wire transfer. For wire transfer, they would need to match. ACH is just account numbers and the amount.

Heh, I have one customer service representative like that at my merchant account provider. When I called her the 2nd time in the same hour she told me "what do you want now, sir?" and "please don't call again today". Yeah, she works at my merchant bank in the US :D Now when I call and I get her on the line (about 30% of the time), I just hang up and dial again.
