Default MASTER LIST OF ITEMS or THINGS THAT MAY DRAW A MC999

I get this question probably asked more then any other question so we need a sticky with a list of items or things you do that will draw an MC999 on new accounts or even newer accounts.

These are items that will get you an MC999 the majority of the time.

Items-

1. Brand new items, unopened, boxed, sealed.
2. Electronics
3. Cell phones and cell phone accessories
4. Name brand items
5. Phake items
6. High prices items
7. 0.01-0.99 items on a new account
8. Duplicate listing of the same item on a new account

Things you do-

1. Listing on a new account right away.

If you have other items you have experienced a MC999 on please list it.

From my experience I sell yard sale, households, used box lot items on all of my own accounts for the first month. Then move into other items, areas etc once feedback is left and 30 days have past. Some have had success earlier but for me I wont risk an account for this so patience is a key factor if you want a long lasting account.

Maybe you should have a sticky thread. Seems like members answer these same MC999 questions every day.

To be fair, MC999 can be summarized as the result of not following common stealth procedures and practices well enough. Everything listed in the OP are examples of it.
If you get MC999, you need to rethink about your stealth practices and determine what went wrong.

If you get MC999 it doesn't mean automatically you have rethink your stealth practices. It could just mean you weren't dealt the right hand that day. You could have the best stealth practices in the world but that won't mean anything if you don't have luck on your side.

Uh those items are in the 10's of 1000's listed everyday and no MC99's are issued for all of them daily. I've always sold this stuff since 90's MC99 twice in all that time. So no it's not an automatic trigger. If you botch shipping or the item isn't in the described condition your toast.

No one said for them all on every account.

These are well known as some of the top reasons people get MC999s.

Do you understand this is mainly for brand new or newer accounts?

The purpose here is to help people, esp newbies avoid getting MC999s and has nothing to do with you listing items like this since the 90's.

So what is your contribution to helping newbies avoid getting mc999?

Well known by who, you? Lets not state our opinion as fact. This just creates fallacies which is doing no one any favors especially Newbies. I know that there is no well known experimental backing for half of your list.

To the contrary, I can actually attest to having success with doing a lot of those things on new accounts without ever getting an MC999.

The only thing we definitively know that causes MC999's is selling too quickly especially right after account creation.

I do understand and I do list all that stuff from day one on new accounts, it doesn't raise any red flags or invoke the dredd MC99 unless it's not as described or ships real slow. Everything I sell is exactly as described and ships same day it's paid for and well packed. Follow that model and your fine.

The only time I've ever had trouble is with scammers trying get stuff for free or competitors selling the same stuff but I've gotten quite good a pre-screening them and blocking them(easy way is to check the feedback they left for others and check what they sell.).

How about reading. Many have posted reasons or asked questions why they got the MC999 and posted what they have sold so it is well known to those who spent time here and read post.

Opinion? No, I get tons of messages from people who have lost accounts and when I ask them what they sold 99.9 of them tell me something from the list above.

Yes you have had success but many others especially newbies dont have your experience and knowledge on how to list these things and get away with it. Do not assume everyone is like you.

The last sentence is totally incorrect. Most of us all know that selling something new, branded or high priced etc will get you an quick mc999.

Here you go just one from yesterday. We see post all day long about these and of course they are most of the items listed above and then some.

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ebay-di...tml#post469036

This item did not get the MC999 for anything other then being a name brand, high priced and new. All three on my list.

Take WE out of your sentence and add I because many threads here are just like the one in the link.

@Sandy post was set in place to help out Newbies.

A lot of people come to the forum for help, and most them are in a hurry to get back on making mistakes along the line.

So why not help them get back on their feet. If you can help decrease the percentage of acct failure then great.

It is the choice of the newbie to take the advice or not. If they want to experiment going against the grain, then that is their choice.

I for one take Sandy's advice always as very credible.

Malarky, it's all just yack that's regurgitated over and over again as gospel with no real proof to back it up. If that stuff really was causing MC99's then none of it would actively be listed for sale on ebay by anybody new or old.

I've sold sold this stuff for years without hassle. So have lots and lots of other sellers big and small and many more will continue to do so for years to come.

Chances are these duffs are getting tagged via ip ,mac id ect... not the merch or the quickness of listing on a new account.

Going by the fuzzy logic on here a seller could only sell generic beat to hell toys not mint sealed hot toys wich are listed by the tens of thousands because that would get MC99'ed at warp speed or some such hogwash. Same applies to Video games,dvd/Blu-ray and gobs of other merch ect... really people?

Here's a question that never gets answered--Why do the hardcore in the know stealther's keep getting groups of accounts banned? You can find lots of post on here by several saying it happens to them regularly. Aren't they on top of the game?

Pity the OP in the above thread had not known of the suggestions offered in this thread

Simply put, if eBay flags an account, a new seller may be faced with problems

To be able to minimise problems might help the account long term

The fact that some of the things you mentioned as being problematic actually work well for me is not a matter of my experience rather the fact that some these things are benign. Here is the true break down of that list based on what my extensive research in this forum:

There is overwhelming evidence to suggest selling too quick leads to MC999s. There are mounds of cases here and we can determine that that was the common denominator. It is a fact that selling too quick may lead to an MC999.

There is evidence to suggest selling too early Electronics, Cell phones/accessories, Phake items, and high priced items may cause MC999s.

There is a little evidence to suggest selling brand new and name brand (non-vero) items too early may cause MC999s.

There is no evidence at all to suggest duplicate listings of the same item or listing .01/.99 cent auctions causes MC999s. This is just a rumor started by Sandy.

I actually recommend waiting 30 days and then doing the last two items on Sandy's list to build a new account. It works extremely well and helps raise limits fast. So if you are looking to build solid Stealth accounts, wait 30 days to sell, go to the dollar store and buy 10 of the same item, list it as a .01/.99 auction, ship fast, and watch your feedback and limits raise.

I just want to remind everyone that we don't definitively know all the causes of MC999s. People have reported getting MC999s after doing everything imaginable. Some right after creating a buyer account. But it serves no purpose other then to create paranoia, miseducate, and stunt the growth of healthy stealth accounts to list things that have little or no evidence to support their validity.

It just going slow building up and using common sense. The guy that put me to this site, I know that he go through a wholesale supplier. Been doing the electronics for a while & always have that "limited availability" or something like that, then all of a sudden "sold out" I know you not sold out you go through a supplier. That just let's me know that he doesn't get greedy with it to get flagged.

Might consider adding: Listing of item in wrong category +/- trying to get over category limitations by listing in wrong category to cause for mc999

Does anyone know if at a certain time of the year there is a higher chance of getting an MC999?

While I wouldnt say there is a particular time of year you should think this, during the holiday season there could be more MC999`s handed out as more people try to register and push sales

No one would know this info but you will find that if you use a solid account, list a few non risky items at a fair price/smart price that you can stay under their radar scope no matter what time of year.

Reasonable response is this will depend on the conduct of the account.

Will differ for all.

Everything differs with ebay.
