As I sell clothes on one account, the return rate is quite high due to things not fittung, not looking right etc.
Will paypal take action against my account for many returns? Is there a % or number I need to stay below?
Any advice welcome

They can permanently limit your account for this. There is no known set % or amount to stay under. Every account is different.

Its a powerseller account with limits lifted. Still fairly young and lowish feedback (200) selling around 90 items a month. I'd say i'm getting around 2/3 returns a month on average. Theres been a spike just now which has got me worried.

Check your Sellers Dashboard....
tbf, you are leaning towards a reaction from ebay given your feedback total to selling ratio.
May I suggest you check your items and see what ( if anything) needs to be changed.
Your plan needs checking now before you sustain damage. Bear in mind, the silly selling season is coming. You need to maintain near perfection to get thro without hassles.
ebay takes no prisoners here. |

The dashboard is fine. 5/5 on all and no esculated cases ever.
It is literally just having to refund due to customers changing their minds that has got me thinking.

Never not once had a problem selling clothes. I just make sure to give lots of measurements and my opinion if I feel it might be a large or small fit. I was always willing to give 100% satisfaction guarantee but it has never been invoked. I think after the holidays since I have unfortunately lost another 15 lbs. to sell some things that are way too big. Just don't try to sell any Burberry jeans. LOL

I sell new jerseys etc and always put in the exact measurements, size and any details I can add.
Also, I put in NO RETURNS ACCEPTED IF IT DOES NOT FIT.
I have given you more then enough measurements to make sure it will or will not fit.

I agree with Sandy. It is best to always include actual measurements for clothing. It is a hassle but like Sandy if you put the measurements usually in big bold letters and something saying compare to something you own. There will be no returns do to sizing. Really hard for the buyer to find you at fault or their argument to stick.
Years ago when I was lazy and didn't do this. I would have 3 people buy the exact same item. One would say it was too big, one would say it was too small. The other would say it was just right. They would all have some B.S. story about how it doesn't fit the same as their other clothing, etc, etc. So I always just include measurements.

i believe its always better to sell accessories or cheaper items which can't be returned, along with the bread and butter clothes. it keep the account in good rating

I don't care how protected and how carefully a listing is done on eb there is going to be a person that is unreasonable. Anywhere actually not just eb. It's just more harmful on eb.

I have gotten a negative for this before. The buyer left me a negative saying the item didn't fit. I responded saying the measurements where clearly stated in the listing. I can't help people who can't read. Some buyers are just arrogant, rude and I would rather take a negative from them than bend over backwards trying to help them.
Normally with these people I will try to help them out with and exchange or something if I can. Especially if they are polite and message me I accidentally bought the wrong size or something like that. I am not a complete jerk. But the point is if you include the measurements they can't say it was falsely advertised or something like that. Try to blame you or make something up it doesn't fit like my other one etc. Boom here are the measurements.
I usually handle it like this. If you want to send it back I will make an exception but you are responsible for return shipping and the cost of shipping to send the replacement item. The item is also expected back in the same condition as sent with any tags attached.
However, I do have some items that I auction off. I put in big bold usually bright colors to differentiate from the rest. Sale of this item is final, measurements are provided. I am not responsible for anyone who purchases the incorrect size.

Any advice welcome | Is it female clothes? In my experience of selling female clothing the return rate is quite high for not fitting or just changing their minds as when they try it on in front of mirror.
That would explain it if it is.

You are absolutely right. It does not protect you. But I have noticed since I have included measurements, and a disclaimer and a no return policy. My issues with sizes not fitting have been few and far between. You can't stop every undesirable from purchasing from you. But the more detailed you describe it and the more you give the less likely you are to deal with these types. They are more likely to ask you a question and if they sound troublesome then you can block them.
Personally have dealt with clothing for nearly 10 years. It does take extra time to take measurements, etc. But you have to ask yourself how professional do I want to be. How many complaints do I want to deal with. It is either pure laziness or lack of will to not do this. A tape measure costs like .50 cents, own about 50 of them. They are like box cutters scatter all over the house. If it is any kind of clothing each year will fit differently, each production. Always best for you and your customers to just put the measurements and do it the right way. Will cause much less headaches and frustration in the long run.

I wont sell a jersey without taking measurements across, sleeves, neck, top to bottom etc.
If you dont have time to insert the measurements then you are opening yourself to issues.
If the profit is so low that 2-3 minutes is an issue then find another item to sell.
I dont have issues. Buyers know full well my instructions.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE THE MEASUREMENTS I HAVE INCLUDED WILL FIT YOU OR WHO IT IS INTENDED FOR.

But I make it sure this is the sizing as measurements are clearly stated. If you can't understand that do not buy from me. I have said this before. But I would rather lose out on multiple sales than have to deal with problem buyers. I do my best to make sure that doesn't happen. With the markup I have on my items. Sometimes I get people asking me certain questions about sizing and it if it does not fit will you allow returns or refund me. I would love to tell them them off, I have the lowest price go F yourself. Instead I just block them. You burned that bridge and I don't care. I don't make enough on this to make me give a ****. In my near 10 years on eBay if someone goes out of their way to contact you more than likely they are a problem or a potential problem/hassle. I get them trying to message me later when I sometimes auction items off cheap. Why can't I bid etc. I don't respond because you don't know who is watching on eBay. But if you want to play the low ball card or try to talk my items down. There is the door, I do not want to do business with you. PERIOD!

Don't know if this works for clothes specifically, but improving rate of returns can be done with very detailed and specific descriptions of the item.
Exact measurements, defects, very detailed photos. This lowers the reasoning a buyer may have for returns and wins some obnoxious/arrogant return claim cases.
