Default FedEx Direct Signature or Declare Value????

I ship some box via FedEx Home/Ground cause they are cheapest and faster than USPS and UPS.

Item price around $200. What is the good option here?
- Direct Signature cost $3.50
- Declared Value cost $2.70

Quote:
The FedEx maximum liability for loss, damage or delay or any other claim with regard to any shipment is limited to US$100 or US$9.07 per pound (whichever is greater) if no value is declared. If the value of your shipment exceeds US$100.00, you can declare a value of up to US$499.99 and pay an additional fee. FedEx Express(R) and FedEx Ground(R) services charge an additional US$0.85 per US$100 of declared value.
My item is $200 and don't know how they charge $2.70?

Thank you

It may be in increments from $0.01-$99.99; $100.00-$199.99..

Try 199.99 for cheaper price

I stopped using fedex and UPS as due to all of the BS. Some of the emplyees are not willing to accept my boxes as it may have slight crease on side, UPS took 3 months for one claim. Other people report you can pay them to package item, add insurance - and they can deny claim saying it was not packaged properly.. just all BS from them in my experience.

I declared my item of $196.

Per statement above and my understand is I ONLY need to buy the Declared Value IF the item more than $100.

And if item more than $100 and there is $0.85 per additional $100.

In my case it should be cost me $0.85 right?

Back to the topic . Which is the best option from the 2 above if something going wrong (lost/stolen/missing)

Thanks

I am not sure how UPS/Fedex does it for sure, but just because you declare it at a higher value does not mean it then has insurance. I believe you need to declare value and insure, goes hand-in-hand.

As the wording suggest, I would think you should only need to pay the extra .85$ but it is something they probably do not regulate, so most payers just pay the extra with never noticing, making them that much more..

Signature just lets you know someone at "that" residence *or the driver* signed for it. But some things like ebay require it for such priced parcels but it would not cover if it is broken. I.e they can still sign for the broken item.

Though Insurance would help more as if it gets losts (never gets signed) you could open a case AND if it is broken when delivered, you could open a case.

I think the rate went up from .85 to .90 as of Jan 1. They probably forgot to update the message. Hence 3 x .90 = 2.70. If you declare $199.99 it is 2 x .90.

Right, the first $100 they cover. Over $100 is optional. So if you have $200 item and lost you would be covered for only $100 unless you declare higher value.

$1-2 doesn't matter, main main question is which option is better incase of something wrong with the package. Like getting lost (CAN'T be damage)

Tony, direct signature is the only option that will stop a scammer. If you declare value they can still claim not received. Then you have headache to file insurance claim. For .80 not worth it.
