Default Weird type of Mc999

So today I checked one of my big seller accounts.

I noticed that my listing was removed along with all information of customers to whom I had sold items. So I checked my messages.

I had one ebay message that said that they decided to restrict my selling capabilities in the category I was listing in. It didn't state why. It said I could sell in other categories.

So.. it was weird. On this one account I only list in that one category. She's over a year old with only one negative feedback (it was around xmas and they complained because usps took awhile to deliver. I shipped it next day though- not my fault) . It was at 99.7% with almost all stars. the only one was the shipping time - it was 4.9

Anyway.

So It said I couldn't list anymore in that account, seemingly out of nowhere. The paypal attached is confirmed and verified as well. No problems there.

So I pretty much just consider it a loss as it is. My question is this. Do you guys think its worth calling ebay over it? I havent had any cases, etc. Or would it make it worse? I can provide supplier info/invoices if needed. It is a stealth account.. but a good one I had thought.

Has anyone else had a similar experience - what were your results?

It was a big seller for me and i hate to have to let the account go :( I wanted to cry.. I do have others, as I spread my sales. It just was one of my faves. :/

If you consider it a lost account, there is nothing to lose. Just call eBay with your Stealth Hat decorated and talk your way out. I hope you find an agent without a bad day.

Good luck!

Always call when u have nothing more to lose, this is very important because even if u do lose an account it can turn out to be worth losing , meaning appeal ever restriction and limitation , that way you get used to calling and speaking with eBay/ paypal and whatever they ask for send in, it will make you more experienced and eventually u will see it's not 100% hopeless and u will start to overturn limitations and selling restrictions.

And I love to keep them talking , I have stayed on the phone for an hour just saying nonsense , the conversation goes nowhere but sometimes you wear them down and they slip and leak a valuable piece of information

It ended up being my fault. I had gotten too greedy for Ebays taste- I didn't do anything actually wrong except sell a lot in the month. Normally I limit myself but managed to lose track this month. Sigh. The eBay rep was nice just complimented on my feedback, good selling habits. Just asked me how I could sell so much inventory alone(?) I guess I not to have a lot of sales for an individual account maybe? It was the first time I almost hit my actual limit ( though it didn't actually say on the selling page that I had a limit like I do on others). Lesson learned. I will keep better track of my items sold per account to spread sales

He didn't ask for any personal info. No invoices. No nothing. Just said I could sell in other categories but never again in the one I had. Boo

Thank you, for the info & it's such a bummer when ebay targets people trying to make a honest living.

So you only got limited in one category? Hmm could be a competitor pushed a case to ban you from one category...or people got jealous

This actually happens more frequently than not. Even on some established accounts. Having multi-variation listings with too many items sold or too much quantity for certain items. Usually branded ones cause actually cause eBay to see it as risky.

Had this happen to me before, I was ultimately able to get the category restriction removed (as always, I am an expert at getting accounts back).

It comes down to calling everyday, providing INVOICES, INVOICES, INVOICES. And throw is some extra zazz by sending in business license, sellers permit, whatnot.

Same thing happened to me before though, and I have to agree with vogeltron, thats probably what did both you and I in. I have all multi-variation listings on that account, and anytime i get over 20 sales, Ill end the item and start it fresh again.

How much did you sell? I am curious as to what eBay's threshold is even if they put monthly limits on accounts. What were your selling limits on that account and how much did you sell?

Even if this info is provided...each account is different...should not be generalizing

Thanks but I am not generalizing. I am interested in finding out how much was sold. Even if Turkeyhunt just gave a %. Just for my own information.

Ahhhh, metrics huh? I like it

That's what eBay apparently uses for determining "risk" involved with accounts. Was told this over the phone by a high-up rep. I told him that system is flawed because what if your sales are seasonal?

He said thats something they are looking into....YEAAAA RIGHT

As far as how much, I am not going to give exact figures. But they were from multi-variation listing. I normally keep my sales no more than 50 max and I let myself go past it. Not sure if that helps or not. Yeah i just checked that account today and turns out that it now completely restricted from selling. I can only buy on it. Which is fine since I already set up my back ups and had moved on

Different algorithms for each. If you are familiar with statistics they are looking for the outliers on either side of the curve.

Econometric's and Statistical analysis is very prevalent today in deciphering internet sales data today.

MDTHEDOC and I have a basic background in this. Some of the highest people from graduating classes we where apart of got entry level jobs in Silicon Valley doing statistical analysis.

eBay is looking for Heteroscedasticity. I can guarantee you that. If you are one of those accounts you are in trouble.

LOL, MDTHEDOC! WE CALL THAT SAMPLE SELECTION BIAS!!!!

Possibly. Why was it restricted? What notice did they send you. Everything is very subjective.

I could of sworn that along with item limits, each category has its limits as well.

For example, a brand new account can be limited to 10 items in the first 30 days, but only able to list 1 laptop until limits are raised. I'm sure high-profile and popular categories are combed over more thoroughly.

I had a category (women's clothing) restriction on an account so I know there is a selling/listing limit in that category.
