Post Yahoo! Phone - US/UK/France phonenumbers for $2.49 a month

I recently created an account with Yahoo! Phone. They offer dozens of different area codes (at least in the U.S.). All you have to do is:
  1. Create a Yahoo! account
  2. Download the Yahoo! Messenger
  3. Subscribe for their 'Phone In' Service

You can choose from a variety of available numbers (U.S. / U.K. / France) which will be active immediately.

Fees

$2.49 a month if billed annually ($29.90)

or

$2.99 a month if billed monthly

This seems to be the best and least expensive alternative to Skype.

It is also possible to create a Yahoo! Out account which allows you to call phones worldwide for a very low price. PC-to-PC calls are free of charge.

Here is the link to sign-up: Yahoo! Voice - Make Free and Low Cost Calls From Your PC

Well, I selected the correct area code when selecting what number I wanted.

I supplied the number to Paypal, when the call came I noted the numbers down - at this stage I thought it was successful as it was accepted.

However, I then received a message immediately stating that they are unable to confirm and they sent out a letter containing the pin to the address which was on file.

Hmm, well, I hope this letter is going to reach you.

Has anyone else tried Yahoo! Phone? It worked fine for my account.

Dear XXXXXX,

Congratulations, by successfully answering our automated phone call, you have confirmed that you are located at the address you have on file. This further increases the security of our network.

Thank you for helping us test our Confirm Location by Phone process. Your account information has been updated to reflect your successful completion of this process.

Well, I just used Yahoo! Phone again and it worked fine.

anthonychan, try the following: Get the latest Vista version of the Yahoo! Messenger (I have no experience with the XP version). Log in to PayPal and go to the section which asks to confirm your location using the 6-digit pin they sent to your address. Just enter 000000, twice. It will cancel this confirmation process and you can go ahead and start the whole process allover again. This time, make sure to plug-in a microphone (I am not 100 % sure if that makes a difference, maybe it does, os just in case) and use your speakers, no earphones. It seems like, Yahoo! is not sending the beep-tones properly through the line, so you are actually recording the tones and sending them through.
Let PayPal call you and wait until the voice has finished talking. Enter the four digit pin on your screen.

Let me know if that worked.

This only works for people in the US, not the UK.

I tried Yahoo Phone Number and I get the paypal phone call but they redirect me to a page contain 4 digit code and ask me to type it using phone keypad and I couldn't which lead to says that phone confirmation failed and they sent a mail letter to the credit card address to confirm location

To Floridian : you point that you add 000000 two times and you get back to phone step again but I don't see anywhere where to add these numbers ??

You have to open the Yahoo messenger keypad to dial it in.

Hi. I'd also like to know if this is suitable if you only pay for one month, or if you have to pay for the whole year. I've never received any calls from ebay/paypal, so I don't know if the one time call is all they are looking for as confirmation. Thanks.

I bought one month only , and you must open your yahoo messenger to receive the call

I used it for paypal and I got the call but it failed to recognize the numbers I typed so it's useless in paypal and I don't recommend it

don't know about eBay

i hate yahoo, they blocked my voice account, I guess I was getting too many numbers. should I just use another yahoo id?

by the way I have some money on this yahoo voice account, they wouldn't even let me use the money i have on it unless I give them my updated CC information. Why in the world do they need my updated CC information to let me use services I already paid for? It's not like I have any automatic payments set up.

Suck on it Yahoo.

I used it for by ebay france , it worked but then I let it lapse and put mobile on file, I paid using vcc and just let it run out of money, i lost a few credits, it was $10 top up, so most of it got lost. Still I got the number and account is still going without any queries on it re number, I will get another one when paypal asks me to verify limit soon, hope it works thats the bit I was dreading, as address is made up, probaby the Paris Hilton!
