Hi all,
So I know nothing about the topic but want to get into and learn about how stocks work, how you invest, basic knowledge to start out with and then slowly invest some money.
I know its not something you can learn in a day but its something I have looked at doing for a while and would like some feedback / tips / hints on how to get started and understand the market.
I looked at Trading 212 where you can monitor the market live and do everything from a program whilst logged in - is the type of thing to look at?
All advise / knowledge is appreciated |
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!

Your best luck is some good long-term investments (which seem to have stabalized since the Obama), and working with someone who knows what they're doing.
I'd probably rather trade Forex currencies based on news rather than stock at this point.
I tried day trading. Take it from me, I really hated it; stressful, very demanding job. Keep your emotions off your mind and your money. Not everyone can do it.
I made some cash in it, sure, but it just wasn't worth the hassle IMO. Really changed me as a person at how I looked at things. Riches are nothing but dreams unless you come up with your own ideas..

All investing in general is tough. There are no guaranteed winners.
Best thing you can do is educate yourself on your different methods of playing the markets.
Read as much commentary into the global economy, sectors etc and try to determine for yourself. Federal Reserve statements, job reports. BLS Statistics, can all determine day to day fluctuations.
There are also traders who look for certain things in charts of stocks of commodity prices. Look for key indicators. It gets quite complex, (double top, double bottom) you can Google terms like that. But this is the terminology these people talk about.
I am a junkie for this stuff. If day trading was easy I would have retired from eBay a long time ago.

Check out TradeKing lots of valuable resources there. I myself have investments and have made money on penny stocks before but it's time consuming. Daytrading is pretty much a full time job because what you need to do is research and study before, during and after buying/selling stock.

Riches are nothing but dreams unless you come up with your own ideas.. | This is sound advice. If you take a look over the past few decades all of the indexes have risen. Sure there are periods where the market gets rocky but you just have to stick to your guns and learn from history, stocks just continue to grow in the long run.

If you know people running pump and dump scams you and can get in on early than you can make money.
I made some money on one a few months ago. PHOT Grow Life I actually mentioned it on the board. Company is now being sued by the shareholders.

Yeah it's pretty much the only way you make money on them. You just have to subscribe to tons of newsletters that alot of these penny stock sites have. When you see a stock that gets highlighted by more than one of them as a "hot penny stock" buy the first day, sell the second of third. The stock will skyrocket because everyone that searches for penny stocks will be seeing their website and buying that specific stock and everyone that was in on it will sell their stocks shortly after. Playing the pump and dumps can be profitable. But it is risky. Remember you are always playing on other peoples faults, by them losing you win. It is the way of the world I agree. Nothing less than a Las Vegas Casino should you enter it in my opinion.
Game of high risk high reward. The more inside info you have from the pumpers the easier it is to get come out ahead.

Central Banks have pumped so much money into the markets though QE programs it has really distorted the market in my opinion. I only short stocks now when if I think they are basically going to fold and go bankrupt.

True point on the pumpage but shorting with insight is fun and profitable - but risky like any other method

I do day trading on the side and use IG Markets.
My number 1 rule after getting burnt a number of times is make sure you have a stop loss. For the sake of a few hundred you can lose thousands.
And don't listen to the news, get onto trade2win for more info etc.
Psychology is a big factor, it takes years and continuous learning to be successful.
Let me know what market you're looking to trade and i'll direct you to some info/service i use or specific to them.
