Bit of a tricky one, Old School.

I have associates whose income is from both amazon & ebay. My is a very mixed bag of sites.

I am not sure if there was a person not doing ebay would be here, if you get my dirft.

Is there anything specific you are wondering?

GB

Yes. I was hoping there were other venues other than eBay & Amazon that were worth the time and effort to sell on in addition to eBay & Amazon.

I've looked around but it looks like all the ones I can find have so small a following that it would be wasted effort - with the exception of Craig's List and GumTree in OZ but didn't eBay buy it?

It does not matter if they are small. It matters a seller can make a profit.

That's true but the profit will be small if the traffic is small the sales and profits will also be small.

Thanks for that tip! I'll check it out.

Ha!!! Here's my way.....

Have a look at the SEARCH box top (R).

Put tax in the advanced search box. Result is nothing. LOL.

But on the line below, see : Google™ Search. Put in tax.

Voilą. You should now be able to see any info to assist you.

Deal with the sites who affiliate with Google Shopping. You will survive.

There is money to be made. Ignore the "low traffic". Research other sellers on these sites. You may find many not selling much because they sell garbage products. Then sometimes you stumble upon some sellers making a fortune.

No one believes me until they try it. Too many get tunnel vision with EB and AZ.

I've always been a big advocate for building your own website, in addition to using the other sales venues. The rewards are not immediate, it takes time to build a profitable site. But it will eventually pay off if you promote your site and refer your own customers to it.

I lost money on my website for at least 6 months. But the losses were SMALL losses. I looked at it as a future investment. It is now over 3 years old and the profits are good. Not to mention, eBay can't decide to shut it down.

But it CAN be discouraging at first. Everyone wants to see results for their efforts, and the results of a website are not usually immediate, so people forget about it. And that MIGHT be the right decision, if you are only planning on selling online for a short time, like to help fund your college education or something like that. But if you are planning on doing this for the long haul as a career, then a website should DEFINITELY be a part of your plans.

Right.. eBay, Amazon, your own website.

Have your own website, it's an investment that will pay off big if you keep up with it and build on it.

Sorry for my slow response. I got lost and couldn't find my back to this thread!

Man! I've got so much to learn - beginning with Forum navigation!

Thanks guys so much for the great advice!

I'm going to respond on the cheap by responding to each in this one post.

GreenBean: Thanks for that tip! I remembered it and that's how I was able to find this thread again!

unkown5454: I'm not sure how to find "the sites who affiliate with Google Shopping." Great info - I wasn't aware of Google Shopping as a seller site. Thank you!

Sandy D: "Many eggs in many baskets." Got it! No I'm not being saucy here. In looking back I've always been a little too single minded. I do need to change my outlook. eBay is not warm and fuzzy. Spread the effort and so spread the risk. I'm changing my methodology. Thanks!

jeffweico: Is that your cat? That is a PBC (Pretty Big Cat). I love cats! Great advice! I am definitely aimed at creating my own website especially with Donahoe's apparent "Seller Cleansing" on eBay. It's going to get more and more difficult for the small sellers (under $1,000,000 / per year) to exist on eBay. He wants to get rid of all the "noise" from the "mom and pop" sellers.

Have you seen Ezra Firestone's info on creating an online selling presence? It's called "Brown Box Formula" Comments?

Aspkin: Yes, yes and double yes! My eBay business was to be my "retirement business" After 14 years and doing over $1,000,000 a year and paying eBay over $250,000 a year in fees they just wiped me off without so much as a second thought. Thank you for giving me hope again!

Bonanza if you sign-up for the outrageous high seller fee plan. It is the "turbo" marketing they do. I got nearly 1000 sales in 3 months using it. I was able to charge more then my ebay prices so it worked out.

We are in the same boat, same story. Does allow me to increase prices. What plan are you on? I'm on Gold, but I want to do the higher ones since it's supposed to help balance the high fees for high volume sellers.

Actually, it looks like one of my cats (I have three) but my "Little Guy" is not quite as big, although he IS a bit chubby. This picture was of a very obese cat who was said to be very loving and a great cat. Some people were making fun of him, and that disturbed me terribly, so I adopted him as my avatar. My heart just went out to him. We have a lot in common. Us throw-aways have to stick together. :-)

google shopping isn't a seller site... but it does pull results from stores who have certain relationships with google. since google is the top-used search engine, any outlet you choose to sell your product on better have some decent exposure with google shopping clients. Call it a reciprocity
