Default Would a competitor pay 50 bucks to give you a neg?

Well, I just had a buyer today pay 50 bucks with buy it now. Created acct today, 07-27 and purchased my item with a buy it now. I had turned on immediate payment required. So would a competitor actually risk losing 50 bucks to leave me a neg? Any experience on this? Let me put it his way, to pay 50 bucks for my item would be on the high end for this product.

What makes you think this?

Expand on your thoughts.

Was your listing Best Offer or BIN?

For some people the item might be just what they wanted

Rather a multiple of variations feasible.

competitor might do it if they thought they could get their money back through a case anyway.....or if 50 was worth it to mess with your rep...

you need to wait and see, it may just be a newly registered buyer...

I have no idea if it is a competitor, but are you kidding? People kill people for less than $50....If a seller can gain some sort of advantage from buying your item for $50....that's nothing in the big scheme of life.

Kind of a big jump to conclusion, but anything is possible. I've had this exact same thing happen in the past, and in the end it was a normal buying experience.

It's hard to say, but usually if a new buyer with 0 feedback buys from you, then they may have googled the product and found your BIN. I personally sell low valued items £8-30 and get many 0 feedback buyers and have never had a negative or problem from 1000s of sales. My negatives are usually from people with 3-20 feedback who never even contacted me.

I think these 0 feedback buyers find the item through a search engine, sign up, buy it, done and don't leave you feedback or visit eBay again unless there's an issue, but never had any.

Anything in this world is possible but I would worry more about the paranoia.

@joesshooze, LOL, I know right? I am extremely paranoid about all this, but yea, I need to lighten up.

Thanks to the rest for your input. I think I am truly paranoid.

A lot depends on the niche of the market...there are niches that are ultra crazy with neg. feedback...claims...f*ke attorney letters...even mail send to sellers directly...

I think this crap all the time. It is paranoia. I have lots of buyers with 0 FB and new accounts. I am always thinking "this POS better try to burn me", and they never do (at least not that I recall). So I would just not worry about it.

I've had lots of buyers with 0 feedback. Like others have said, my type of item was probably found through search engine and person just signed up to buy.

You're never going to know if it's a competitor for sure. Your best bet for fighting negative feedback?

Was the feedback suspicious? Did they leave the negative before even contacting you?

Have you had issues with a competitor? You can report the buyer to ebay as abusing the system and ebay can tell if accounts are connected.

When I had negative feedback in the past that I KNEW was a competitor, I left a response to the feedback saying "This is a competitor attempting to sabotage my account. Events never happened"

I know if I read that as a customer, then I would not take the feedback seriously. Especially if you have other positive feedback.
