In the past three weeks I have received three separate payments from the same customer. Rather high amounts >$5k. I have been processing payments from this same customer for at least a year or so with no issues. Two out of the three have gone under PayPal's Payment Review process. The first one was given the "OK" after 24 hours. The second one was not reviewed. Now, I just received the third one this morning and it was put under review. Is this something I should be concerned about? I don't know what was "reviewed" on first payment, they never said. Is this an automated process? Very frustrating, as this is a legit account. I am tempted to call them but don't want to rock the boat.

You have no need to panic just yet. Don't jump ship.
Its an automatic process. Especially with the new paypal system.
If you have made it before you may be ok again. When/if there are issues, then you can give them a ring.
5K is nothing to sneeze at. Patience is the key right now. |

Update. Just like last time, exactly 24 hours later the review was complete and the funds were made available. WTF??? Why are these transactions getting flagged when it is the SAME customer that I have been receiving payments for for the past year? Nothing has changed on my end or on my customers end.

i had this happen to me but it was like 100.00 paypal loves to float the money i hate when they do this.

Paypal puts payments under review if the the amount is out of the persons normal spending patterns. They also do it to protect the user in case there account has been hacked.

It is a protective reaction from paypal.
Their system is looking at a pattern of behavior, ie, transactions between same accounts.
One factor going to be involved is the amount. You mentioned $5000 approx for each transaction. Obligations for paypal within US banking regualtions mean flags like this.

But any processor would have the same MO.
I myself have had these reviews on a paypal account handling a high volume of funds.
If the majority of your sales are on ebay, keep in mind that buyers are brainwashed and sales may be lower. |

Well, here we go again. Another payment from the same customer (>$5k) and it's under review. Like I mentioned, something must have changed because for the past year I have been receiving payments from the same person and they always went through no problem. Now, within the past month, all of them seem to be going under review....

In my experience its because the sender is unverified.

Unconfirmed does not mean incorrect address, it means they do not have a CC attached to that address.

yeah this is happening to me a lot, and the message states because they sender is "unverified".

Well, now I think I am screwed. It has been more than 24 hrs and the payment has not cleared. I have no choice but to call them..... sucks.

Be glad this happens when you receive the payment, rather than after you ship the item out.
These high values you are receiving are very risky..
