Default A case is opened-what should I do?

I sold a digital code to a buyer, whose ebay acct is registered on the day purchasing with zero feedback, his address/PP are confirmed and verified.

I put in description that it is a digital stuff, deliver by email.
Now he claimed he never received the item and request tracking number.

What should I do? refund is the only option?

1st, you need to stop selling digital items
2nd, There's really not much you can do...unless you ship him the code by mail and add a tracking.

This seems to be a recurring theme with digital item sellers.

It would be too late if I send the mail with tracking after the case is opened, right?
When can I leave him a feedback? Can he leave me feedback after I leave him feedback?I really want to let people know he is a scammer.

Is it possible to disable that particular code? Would this person need to activate the code? Think outside the box to get back the code or report it misplaced.

He waited a while to open the case. The code already been activated.
No way I can take it back.

You can try and send it.....there's no guarantee you will win.

You can leave feedback at any time, problem is that buyer can ask ebay to remove it, you sold an item without a tracking number, you took the risk and now here you are.

You have to admit, you got yourself into this mess....either try to cancel the code or do something.

I would try this. I do remember instances of people on here saying that this had worked for them.

I would try to send it anyways and make sure to add the tracking. and from now on you should do it the same way.

The Buyer who purchased the Digital Code from you is definately a Scammer, since he is claiming that he never received the Code and filing a Case with Ebay, when he obviously activated it. Since I don't know the exact circumstances behind the Digital Code you sold, and I don't know if you can deactivate the Code on your end, here is my solution, even if you don't agree with it.

My solution, close the Case and issue the refund.

I think most Ebay Sellers at some point run into a Buyer like this, who basically want something for free, and will abuse the Ebay Case system to get it. Having a Case open like this, and letting it linger by providing any and all information to Ebay to help with the Case will not help you or your Account. The reason being is that the Buyer is never going to relent, because he wants something for free and his money back as well, and he knows that in the end, Ebay will more than likely side with him, the Buyer.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but you will be better off in the long run. I am sure you don't want to part with the money, but hey no Seller does. In sum:

1) Like MM78 said earlier, don't sell Digital Code any more.

2) Close the Case by issuing a full Paypal refund.

3) Despite the fact that he is a Scammer, leave the Buyer Positive Feedback,

4) Send a follow up E-mail to the Buyer, letting him know that you closed the Case, and that he received a full Paypal refund. The combination of Steps 3 & 4 I just outlined should make him less inclined to leave you Negative Feedback. I am not making a guarantee that he won't, I am just saying it will make him less inclined to do so.

You've got to play by the rules as a seller.

Next time, send a tangible item with tracking to their address as we'll.

Very informative reply by wigan88. I would follow his steps as hey the customer is always right but log his details (not id but address ect) and be wary of him for any future sales. You can always post the code in a recorded letter from your po but why add info when its obvious he or she is out for something for nothing. Carry on with your digital content but if its over £40 in value add tracking is my rule of thumb which discourages any buyers in the know of abusing false claims..

You know why buyers take advantage? Because the seller ALLOWS it to happen!! If the seller opens themselves up for these types of Shenanigans to happen then people will exploit them.

While back I sold digital items and the same thing happened to me. But I refunded the buyer. Now I still sell codes but I explicitly state in the description that code will be sent via PO with tracking. When a buyer purchases I send an email that they are aware this is a code only and not full product.
If buyer does not respond in 24 hours I refund money.
The funny thing is an eBay rep told me to list the item like that. They are getting somewhat lenient on digital deliveries because that's what most companies are doing now.
Now since I've been doing this I have not been scammed or had any issues from eBay
