Default Need some help with AOL 9.0 VR

I wanted to use the AOL proxy thing to create a few accounts but I can't even get into AOL. When I select guest from the drop down menu it then asks me for a screen name/password. At this point it will not accept any of my aol screen names for some reason. Am I doing something wrong, does anybody else have this problem?

You don't have a aol screen name

AIM and AOL are two different things. AIM accounts are @aim.com
AOL is @aol.com

Get a free aol email address at aol.com then sign in using your account on the aol client after you create it.

No I've never used aim before in my life. I went to aol.com and created an email address and screen name. It does end with @aol.com

Then type it into the username and password in your aol client.

Yeah and they don't work when I do that. That's the problem I'm having - anybody else have this problem?

Dont select guest.

When you setup your aol client when you first install it, you are asked do you have an existing aol account. Select yes.

You need to uninstall and reinstall I bet if you passed it.

Well uninstalled then reinstalled then they asked to put in existing username & password. Did this still pops up saying invalid username. Then after a few times it just logs off and says call registration assistence. WHY?

WOAH WOAH WOAH I get it now. You need to setup your client to connect to AOL through your "existing internet connection"

setup button on the login screen

I don't think thats it. AOL does get me onto "AOL space" but I can't get any further because it keeps saying my screen name is invalid.

Im telling you setup the AOL client incorrectly. You are going to get onto AOL space no matter what if you are online. AOL client doesn't log off and talk about registration unless you setup the client without your free aol.com email. AOL client by default wants you to sign up for their pay aol service. If you dont first register on aol.com for a free aol.com email and then login through aol client you will get all sorts of registration things. You cant get a free aol.com email by registering through the aol client.

Man this is frustrating . OK I DO have a free @aol.com email address. I created it before I even installed AOL. So could you perhaps help me with this setup thing. I've looked into it but couldn't see anything that looks like being able to select "use existing internet connection"...

BTW: Just so that I'm not missing anything obvious but what is AOL "client" what I've been using is AOL 9.0 VR - is there a difference?

I have no idea what AOL 9.0 VR is. Im using the AOL ALL IN ONE download.

At the login screen once you load up the aol client should be some sort of setup button /advanced or something that is similar so you can decide how to connect to aol.

So what should be selected for the connection type:

"Automatic"
"Broadband (High-Speed, Cable, DSL, other ISP"
"AOL Broadband with DSL"
"AOL Broadband with Cable internet" or
"Home Network"?

How is your computer connected currently to the internet?

Home network (router), direct connection to a cable, dsl modem?

This is all you guys. I hated AOL since they came out in 98 or 95, whenever it started. Lol

You think you have a cable modem?

I guess choose this: "Broadband (High-Speed, Cable, DSL, other ISP"

OK, Here it goes...

Download AOL 9.0 VR
After the download it will ask you if you are already an existing member ... say no.. setup complete.

Then double click aol icon... program loads....
select "guest" from the first drop down
select "broadband" from the second drop down

click "sign on"
Then you should see there running man appear at the bottom right looking for 1) aol via tcp/ip 2) then tcp/ip and then screename password... which then prompts the login screen where you enter the aol screen name and the password.

Remember: you do not enter the @aol after the screen name. Just the screen name

Now if your problem is that you can not connect then you need to make sure that aol was properly downloaded and setup, make sure during setup you did not choose "dial up" or that aol is not trying to dial out to connect. It should just be sitting on your cable connection.

Peace Out Cub Scout

OK I've selected guest / broadband. Click sign on then it goes thru steps 1) 2). Then it asks for my screenname / password. I type it in it says invalid username / password. So I go on aol.com and login... yep it works I'm in my email. I really do not understand it...

You aren't suppose to be logging in as guest! You didn't setup your client right. You are suppose to setup the client with an aol account pre-existing. That is what I have been meaning. You should be choosing your screen name from the client login drop down menu.

whether I choose 'guest' or 'existing member' they both ask for my screen name / password and both say that it is invalid. I know its not as I've logged into AOL.com with those same details and it worked fine. I'm gonna try to make a new account on AOL to see if that works.
