Default New Promoted Listings - What Do You Think?

What does everyone think of Et.sy's new Promoted Listings starting Oct 1? I use their search ads and was not happy when those changed last year, had to tweak and tweak some more to generate the views and sales I had before the last change. Now it seems they are going to a bid-for-click system similar to Google ads. I don't know how I feel about it t this point. As of Oct 1 the old Search Ads goes away completely so I guess Promoted Listings will be the only game in town.

Any opinions?

Really? Are you at least getting a good price per click? If so it may be worth it..

I am doing some experimenting right now with bidding per click - I get a pretty good amount of sales/traffic anyway but it looks like the promoted listing campaign I have going has paid for itself several times over. I don't do that well with change - but I may have to concede this one isn't that bad an idea. :D

I know that we have to evaluate each thing separately, but I absolutely hate this type of stuff. If I am going to use a venue like eBay, Amazon or Etsy, then the commission I am paying them should pay for the traffic. Why should I have to provide my own traffic and then pay them a commission on top of it? I can do that with my own website.

It brings EXTRA exposure, more so then what you would get otherwise. It's for those who want to move more product. It's not for everyone.

Oh, I misunderstood then. I thought it was Etsy saying that if you wanted people to view your listings you needed to pay extra for "promotion".

So, if it were me, I would try it and evaluate the same way as any other business situation. What is the cost vs. the increased profits from the extra sales generated? If the ROI is decent, then I would go for it.

Well I am definitely making more per the stats than I am spending on the ads. I guess my question is why this is BETTER than search ads which were working well for me also. Sometimes if it isn't broke companies still seem to want to fix it, know what I mean?

I hear you - sometimes it's just a smoke and mirrors game...trying to make things LOOK better when not having anything broke...

Yes and I just hate when traffic is good, they mess with things.
