Thumbs down Bad news from ebay about merchant account

I just chat with ebay and asking which other merchant payment will accept ebay. They say "

Code:
I would like to inform you that ebay will implement a paperless payment method this coming October. Sellers are now longer allowed to accept other payment method aside from paypal and credit card/merchant account.

12:55:18 AM Customer******
OH, so that means we only have a paypal payment

12:55:46 AM AgentAbigail P.
For the mean time we will still allow sellers to accept other payment method aside from paypal and credit card which includes money order and checks.

12:56:25 AM Customer******
It is October 2008 ?

12:56:37 AM AgentAbigail P.
I strongly suggest you only accept paypal payment to avoid any forms of fraud or scam.

12:56:47 AM AgentAbigail P.
Yes, October 2008.

12:57:07 AM AgentAbigail P.
We do not have the exact date yet but we will announce that before the end of this month.
It means the other merchant payment method was now over ?

UNless you are already grandfathered.
Thats been their goal--so they control the transaction from start to finish.

That's just for Money Orders and Checks. They only want online payments now. It doesn't stop us from offering our merchant account as payment.

I don't understand the original post. In the first sentence of the chat, ebay representative says "I would like to inform you that ebay will implement a paperless payment method this coming October. Sellers are now[sic] longer allowed to accept other payment method aside from paypal and credit card/merchant account."

It seems that they will still be accepting other merchant accounts.

Am I missing something?

So if you have a grandfathered account, can you set up a merchant account at any time? Or will it have to be set up before the deadline of Oct 2008 (or whenever they decide)?

You have to accept PayPal or a merchant account. Only online forms of payment will be accepted and a merchant account would be an online form of payment (Credit/Debit Card)

So since I'm grandfathered (with a 2001 account), I will still be able to accept money orders?..which is what ebayhateluv said...right?

Wow, they really want to make sure they have COMPLETE control over everyone. It's like trying to tell someone how to run their own business. This sucks.

They masquerade it as "protecting buyers and sellers" - but it's really to leech more money and improve their bottom line. Their going to "improve" themselves so much, they'll have to go out of business.

To be fair - if you owned eBay - you'd probably be trying to push out as many other payment methods as possible.

Paying with paypal makes total sense to them.

It is doubtful that it is legal for them to do that.

It is a pity that other providers have not taken them to court over this.

So many people have brought class action law suits against them (I get notices all the time). Why don't members bring another class action law suit over this subject?
