Default Alternatives to a Bank Account

My oldest son just started selling on ebay with an account under his real name. He applied for a bank account with Ally Bank but I have a feeling he will be declined due to his credit. My question is, what are his options as far as attaching a bank to withdraw money. I read once about reloadable credit cards, will this work? Which one is the cheapest one?

I do not know about reloadable cards but I am sure there is a bank that will offer your son an account. If Ally fails, then just go try another.

Banks don't care about your credit for the most part, unless you're applying for a credit card. I think they would only deny him if he was reported to Chexsystems for owing a bank a debt, or maybe if he tried opening too many bank accounts in a short time frame. Even then, you still have options. There are second chance banks that don't mind someone being in Chex.

But otherwise he should have no problems getting a bank account. If he's too young to appear in public databases he might need you to go with him and open an account at a bank that has a physical location. I opened my first account at BoA with my parents when I was just a teenager with nothing in my name previously.

There are so many banks better than Ally, especially for use with Paypal. If he's a student, almost all major banks offer free checking to students, which I would recommend over Ally.

As far as I am aware the only options you have for withdrawing from a US Paypal account are to your local bank account or via a check.

So, there is no option for realodable cards. Those are available for other countries (like mine).
