Angry Paypal - 180 day SNAD case policy **effective November 18th

So.... Paypal has changed their policy stating that buyers now have up to 180 days to file a SNAD or Item not recieved case. This seems a little extreme considering that it used to be 45 days. Looks like they will be losing a lot of sellers and vendors. What do you think?

This will affect paypal and they will keep losing sellers and gaining. Everything doesn't last forever. At some point they will start going down hill like any company does. This will affect not the credit/debit card payers, but the people who pay with their paypal balance so they will have 6 months to file disputes. In a tough economy and hard situations everybody is bound to file disputes either falsely or correctly. Don't depend on paypal forever is my best words.

So.. I guess everyone over here is fine with Paypal extending its buyer protection policy to 180 days..

Noone is fine with it.
But just like with any other change brought about by ebay/paypal theres not much anyone here can do about it.
Adapt or switch to other providers. Unfortunately ebay and paypal are probably the largest out there and other providers have their own set of issues one must deal with.
if YOU have suggestions as to what we can all do about it Im sure wed all love to hear about it.

Well. The first step is fixing all information on all my PPs so they do not access to my Bank Accounts. Because truthfully speaking if a case is opened 4 months after it was purchased, I need to make sure PP and EB doesn't have access to anything that is not theirs. The main thing to counter this is to make sure PP does not have access to a BA... And also do NOT give them your SS#...

I had used the 2-3 day verification for my BA on PP, I hope that stops them from diving into my BA if anything goes wrong.

Right.
So youll get a case filed against you and your solution is to make sure that paypal does NOT get the funds from your account - which will of course result in you losing the ebay/paypal accounts.
Not the best solution if you ask me. Especially if the amount in question is a low one.
I think the better course of action is to make sure to do all you can to ensure this situation never comes to pass in the first place by investigating suspicious buyers and reading their feedback profiles before completing a transaction. Theres no 100% solution here - only minimizing the damage. Its unfortunate but it is the way it is.

This has been about in the UK for a while.

Not noticed any increase in INR cases.

Just have to keep tracking details and receipts for longer now

As opposed to what? Having a "co-called" good buyer with good feedback use whatever it is you "sold" them, only to have them file a "not as described" case 5 months later? Anyone filing a dispute more then a month later is up to no good.

I am all about keeping my accounts in good standing, but if I wake up 1 day and see $400 missing from my PP account because of SNAD or INAD for a purchase done 5 months ago, PP can keep that account.

Been talked about and beat around here for the past month or so. Hardly anything will change. Amazon has similar policies at the hioliday season for years now. UK has had this policy for a long while now.
Virtually no difference but it MAY help with international cases. The slow customs countries such as Italy and Argentina I expect to get less cases now because the buyer on day 44 will not feel forced when average delivery is 5-7 weeks....

It seeming that these policies are there to tackle specific issues like shipping internationally and chargebacks but I think they may be going about it wrong..

I can imagine the scenario right now...
PP will make it a major marketing tool on the front page of their website stating you have 180 days if an item is not as you requested...

This seems like more of an extension on a return policy as opposed to time for a buyer to open a case.

Well that's just how things are from now.
Bottom line is this - deal with it or do not. Not much else you can do about it friend. Others have been dealing with it already as you can see from the comments above and it has not broken their business.
Also, if I have an account which is a top rated seller with over 2000 feedbacks Ill prefer to lose $400 to a scammer than loose the account itself. But that's just me.

Yep, I've had a dispute opened before with a " I haven't got it yet, so I'm just gonna open a case now just in case"

For what it is worth, I find comfort in James post above. Honestly if they are up to no good, then they will not wait 6 months to enact their treachery. It just makes us sellers feel uncomfortable because it seems like EB/PP screw us over and do not even offer lube at times. But, it is simply adapt or die, and unfortunately it is hard to say how to adapt without being placed into the position yet.

I personally feel that most buyers are honest, and I do not see this really hurting anymore than what it already does with a 45 day ins policy that PP gives.

take comfort if you want, but people up to no good, will keep your product for as long as they can, and then return it. Which, they can now do 6 months later. Imagine tho how many things might break 6 months down the road vs 45 days. Even if it's through the persons own actions.
