PayPal asking for SSN right away?

I've been hearing some talk that PayPal will now ask for your SSN immediately upon signing up or shortly there after. Is that the case? Haven't made any stealth accounts in a few months but a friend mentioned it.

They do not.
As a part of the new sign up process (with the new layout) they ask for the SSN in order to offer you their Paypal Credit product - but you can easily choose to skip that step and not give them any of that info.

Yeah. You have to scroll down some to see that you don't have to give a SSN. It seems like a sham to fool ppl into supplying their SSNs.

Same thing i thought trying to lure people into giving them ssn
