Default How long will eBay be around?

How long do you think eBay will be around? Do you think online auctions are going down the tubes? Do you think it is still possible for people to be successful selling on eBay?

Just thought this would spark some interesting conversation.

Well I'm not sure how long ebay will be around with things going the way it is but I think maybe 1-2 more years. I think they are trying to phase the online auctions out and do classified type advertising. I do know it is still possible at this time to be successful on ebay but the question is for how long 1 week,a month or what time frame.

Ebay will be flushed down the Toilet when a New Auction Giant company reuse Ebay's Old ways when it first started and do a Mass Advertising Campaign. Until then Ebay is still going to be around.

I agree...ebay's success shows that there is a huge demand for bargains, auctions, second hand goods and product diversity. Ebay are leaving that excellent business model behind, in favour of their `Ebay express' model, which flopped big time. So either they will wake up, or someone else will steal their business model from under their feet.

I am a newbie. I am here as paypal have sent me the "parting ways" email. Personally I am waiting for google to take on ebay. At the mo ebay has the monopoly so they really dont have to think about how they treat people. Bring in a competitor and bingo they will think.

Personally, I don't think eBay will die, I think it's going to be around for the whole internet era.

eBay has become a house hold name - and personally, I don't think much is going to stain that.

eBay is going to be the big dog for a while, until other small similar auction sites learn how to advertise. Most people, when they stray off path, try something new and get lost, they backtrack to the old trail or stop look around, and try to get back going right. But ebay is too stubborn, they wont admit they are lost and keep on going until the run out of gas. Unfortunately, they have alot of gas (buyers/sellers). Sorta like the stubborn driver on a road trip that thinks he's messiah.

The problem is there are many so many other online auctions out there - ecrater, online auction, bonanzale, bidville, ebid, etc. The fed up sellers who have quit ebay have all moved in different directions. If they all gravitated towards ONE of these other sites, it would take off a lot faster and the buyers would come.
