That doesn't sound good. I hope you get you account lifted. It seems like Paypal and eBay are now starting to work together better. Which isn't good for... lots of people.

Hey Modee,

I mentioned this in one of the other threads, paypal and Ebay are now talking to one another! This is apparent when you do not have your accounts linked but you try to list an item and use the "require immediate payment"... It seems ebay reaches out to PP and sees if your account is a premier or a business account which is required to take that immediate payment. If not then you can not list it that way and ebay tells you what type of account you have.

Also, FYI People ....
Ebay is now checking phone numbers! I heard from a friend of a friend who works in trust and safety that ebays new system check dials the phone numbers listed and those returned as disconnected or not a number ebay is going to end auctions and ask you to verify your number.
The way to verify the number is thru a "pin" number that they will give you when you allow them to call the number. Now if you have a voicemail service this is ok as they will leave the "pin" number and then you can enter it later.
It seems this is all computerized, meaning no human contact, just random computer calls and computer voices for "pin" numbers.

Also, I was told that Ebay has plans for the following:
1) Requiring all new members to register with a credit card.
2) Requiring Selling accounts to have a bank account on file as well, sort of like how PP checks to verify you.
3) All new accounts will not be able to list an item for sale for 30 days. (I guess this is their way of preventing you from reregistering when your account is kicked and start selling again)
And the biggest one of all... Are you ready.....You are gonna love it!!!!!
4) Requiring all selling accounts to provide a SS# or Business Tax ID #

Get ready for some heavy times in the future.... My advice to everyone here is if you think 1 back up account is good enough.. well you are wrong. As with other things they have done in the past maybe you can get grandfathered in with the accounts, but I think eventually that will end as well.

FeeBay,

If you have a friend of a friend who works at eBay T&S...maybe we could all put together some kind of 'offer'?

The "30 days" thing definitely has weight when it comes to reasons for suspension. But like all the other 'traps', its 'iffy', until another 'iffy' factor matches then they're exponentially less 'iffy', ans so on.

I'm currently experimenting with several accounts, one day I'll know for sure...kinda, what the reason is for detection/suspension.

Another tip: Maybe already in the forum, use Auctiva. I know it can be klunky, but it has a lower risk factor for detection compared to Turbolister or positng ads directly.

I wonder if this would explain why suddenly I'm unable to list using buy it now on less than 10 FB accounts where previously I had no problems. At first I thought it was the deletion of the old linked account that had been there for years. But it might just be the tighter control...and if ebay is reaching out to check for premier accounts, they might just as well be looking for linked accounts too. I'm going to try an experiment and see how it turns out. It would stand to reason that if the problem was created by the deletion of the account, if I re-add that account, maybe the option will return. If it doesn't, it probably means the problem is just caused by the tighter control. Of course, I also run the risk of having the whole account suspended if I try this, but I already have a neg so what the hey...

Likethemapples, I'm still wary about Auctiva's little key that is generated to allow them to host your auction (or pictures). There's got to be some information that is disclosed there, although the problem might be solved just by clearing cookies, which I already do religiously. Have you ever noticed an account being banned out of the blue lately, with no known cause? If so, it might be Auctiva to blame...

Jack ,

Auctiva has nothing to do with a suspension. They don't share any information. If that was the case i would had been had the boot off ebay!

So you're saying that the information they gather when they setup the link between them and ebay can't even be shared if ebay threatens legal action? I'm just thinking of the extreme example of course, but if the information is there, I don't see why ebay couldn't ask for it any time they chose, unless it violates your rights in some way.

In which case I don't see why you would even need to open a new auctiva account and develop new picture links any time you're suspended. But you do that, right?

No Auctiva stated they do not share any information. the token is placed for Auctiva not vice versa on auctiva's site. The token allows auctiva to work in your account on your behalf, thats it.

Actually after I got suspended I used the same auctiva account and picture links. I lasted for about 2 1/2 months. But the only reason i got suspended was my own fault.

Gentlemen,
there is no need to debate the possibility of Paypal & Ebay exchanging information.

Below is a quote from an email sent by PayPal after I got suspended from eBay.

"......
How we share personal information with other parties

We may share your personal information with:
Members of our corporate family (these are companies owned by our parent, eBay Inc., such as Shopping.com or Skype) to help detect and prevent potentially illegal acts, provide joint services and for other business purposes. However, these corporate affiliates will not use this information to market their services to you unless you have approved it.
......"

It's official. It's 100% clear.
On March 10 I got suspended from eBay.
On March 11 Paypal writes to me to remind me of their privacy policies.

What got suspended on March 10 was a backup account, which was connected to a prior suspension in NO OTHER WAY, but through a non-primary email address at PayPal.

And I don't think this sharing is new. It must have been happening since ebay acquired Paypal. One of the goals of acquisition may have been information access, for all I know.

Nothing prevents eBay from "entering an agreement" with auctiva, whereby they exchange some information. If it does happen in the future, we may not discover it except through a horror-story.
In the past few months, ebay's aggressiveness in witch-hunting has skyrocketed.
It's as if there was a new manager in charge of T&S and he was out to prove himself.
Any such manager worth his mettle would also monitor a forum such as this one, right?....

I mean, it only took me 10 seconds of Google-ing to find this forum, and I take it they must be smarter than me...

Modee,
when you say:
"My PP and EBAY accounts are never linked. I mean I never link them - I just enter an email address to receive PP payments into my EBAY auctions. That's it."

When you enter the email address where to receive Paypal payments, I mean, that piece of information sits on an eBay server somewhere.
eBay owns it, and can use it in an investigation.
If eBay asks Paypal to scan their database for this email, it will bring up your PP account, right?
and bingo!, you're linked to it.

You're 100% correct. With time comes change. That's why we have to stay on top of what changes. As a forum which discusses current events and best strategies to keep active in eBay, I feel we have the one up on eBay. They can change as much as they like, and we'll always be able to adapt. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Hi, i live in the UK. ive had 2 ebay accounts previously banned 1 in my name and 1 in my brothers name both living at same address and phone number. i also had my paypal account banned which was in my name and details completely the whole 180 day thing...appealed no luck...no suprise.

im goint to open a new ebay account with dodgey details using the prepaid card and all that.

i also want to open a new paypal account but will i be able to get my brother to open a bank account, create a paypal account and use the same phone number i used on my banned paypal account? will they link his name and my address if i put it on the new paypal account or isit just me that is banned from using paypal at my address and phone number.

other question when i make the ebay account do i put a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ number because ive heard there doing the same verification thing but is this the same in the uk as well.

cheers

Sorry but i put this on both paypal and ebay boards cos its a bit of both lol

I remember the days when the hackers always had a leg-up on DirecTV and the Cable industry, with the de-scramblers and the doctored access cards. It seemed the hackers geniuses would always be a step ahead of DirecTV and I'd get free premiums forever.
Sadly, that ended.

Now I am starting to think that the bast@rds at eBay have totallt gotten the upper hand. I think I might have to use the identity of a dead person, or my 4-year old son, to create a new eBay identity, complete with his SS#, new address, new CC, new eMail, new modem/router, etc.... I'd do it, but I don't want to screw up my son's record.

We need to find an alternative place besides eBay.
I would LOVE to see eBay go the way of Enron...... or Global Crossing, Ford, etc......

If only it were that easy:(

You still have to drive traffic to it. The one good thing about selling on ebay is that at some time your item will be near the top of the search results just by the nature of when it was listed/ending

With your own site at some point you need to get it near the top of the search page or find another way to drive traffic to it.

In my case I sell a variety of different items that don't fall into a single category so a site would be useless.

Of course we can't create our own site and be that successful.
However, here is a backup plan of mine that I have used temporarily before, and you can to, perhaps.

If your sales are like mine, you have many repeat buyers. I have about 50 people who buy the products again and again. They know me, know my service is flawless, and they trust me. I have their contact information. So when the b@st@rds at eBay shut me down, then I fire up my website @ geocities, and I set it up with PayPal one-step payments. It's actually a blessing sometimes because I don't have to pay the pricks any listing and final value fees. But the monoplolist behemoths still get their cut with the PayPal. I think I am going to now start to offer 100% free shipping with all money order payments.

geocitites is easy as hell to setup, since if I can do it anyone can.

sue (if I may call you that) - Has geocities' offerings improved much?

They used to be considered the "poor man's" website (not just because they're cheap but because the content was often poor too. Poor colors, bad html, constant broken links, page being down, etc.) Many times I've seen them saddled with pop-ups, advertisement runners, strange formatting too -- just not a very professional look. Of course some of that could very well have been the limitations of the creator of the website than the host.

Have you noticed these things I'm speaking of and are they easily remedied with a little knowledge of how to properly do a website? Are all the tools provided, it's just that many don't know how to properly use them?
