Default Local Discount Warehouse

Hi, I'm new here and looking to getting into selling on ebay. I've read through the ebay stealth guide I knew quite a bit about stealth accounts from previous encounters but it was a great read none the less.

I live near a "Discount Warehouse", which are selling product that they purchased in bulk for cheap. I researched about 10 items I picked from the warehouse and found that people selling them on ebay are £10-£20 more expensive than I can get them for.

For example a pair of boots are selling for £38.99 on ebay with free economy shipping. The exact same pair of boots are sold at this warehouse for £29.99, plus I can collect the items myself as the warehouse is about a 2 minute walk.

Is this a viable option to start on? There are obviously plenty of other items at this warehouse. I'm not looking for massive profit at the start, just somewhere to start off and build myself up.

You really should purchase some of these items and have them on hand for shipping.

Agreed, is this like a designer outlet store, the discount warehouse you mention, just be careful there no designer brand names on any of the items, but other than that it sounds ideal for sourcing your items to list on eBay

That's gotten me worried, what do you mean?

Only thing I'm worried about is shipping costs.

The store requires membership also, it's free and it also has a section about ebay traders.

I'll be going down Saturday and having a look at their items as their catalog doesn't show all of it. Ill do research on some of the items they have and try selling a few. I've still got to build up my stealth account however.

Sounds like a really useful place Mrkrabz, should have some great items there for you to list on your account and exactly the kind of place we could all do with living just a 2 minute walk from!!

You will need to work out your profit before diving in.

For the example you give.

Cost is £29.99. Selling price is £38.99.

38.99 - 14% (rough calculation of eBay and paypal fees) = £33.53

Postage costs will likely be a minimum of £2.80, not including packaging.

So its really not worth it for £0.70 profit. Factor in returns/lost post etc and it's just not viable.

My point is, make sure you do your research.

I understand, I was using an ebay calculator earlier. It's just somewhere to start off and get used to the whole thing not entirely for profit right away.

Good idea,

You can always work your way in to eBay. Start slow and build up over time, less chance of making mistakes that way.

But in this day and age you'll get to the projected 200 sales rather quick just to make less than $400 and unless you have lots of accounts it's just not enough profits for the trouble in my opinion

Yeah but for that you need quite a few items that have great demand for EIN to be ideal, and then you need to add your time and overhead. I wouldn't ship 10 items a day just for $20 profit but that's just me

I have a lot of experience with limited accounts, thank god because it gave me an open mind and many opportunities to try different things to succeed. I feel I am very competent now in stealth thanks to the forum and good ol google

I actually do sell some low profit stuff but mainly I do it as stuffers. I have a niche i sell a zillion cheap but industry specific items and than I have an awesome industry specific email list of current buyers and than I push my industry specific high profit margin items to that group. A great marketing plan and also huge acct builder method.

Sounds like a good plan for those reasons. I also sell low or break even items for stuffers and account building but not really for profit. Good idea on the email list on a specific niche.
