Amazon is asking for my passport details or driving licence ETC

I have been selling on amazon for over a year or so but as an private seller not business seller now Amazon asking for my passport details or driving licence?

What's the outcome of all this? Will Amazon share all this data with Third party company or to the TAX MAN? or What happen if Amazon get hacked?

New EU rules for invoicing “electronically supplied services”

Due to a change in EU law on January 1, 2015, Amazon is modifying the way it invoices EU sellers who are charged VAT on Selling on Amazon fees.

Until December 31, 2014, Amazon provided fee invoices only to EU sellers who had entered a VAT Registration Number in their Seller Account Information page on Seller Central, or to EU sellers in business who had requested a VAT exemption from Amazon Seller Support. EU sellers include international sellers who have registered their businesses in the EU and who meet one of the above criteria.

From the first week of February 2015, all EU sellers will receive invoices for Selling on Amazon fees.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

This has been happening for ages. Just provide them with what they ask.

The other email is just an invoice. You don't have to pay it, it's already been paid, it's for there services provided.

Much appreciated your input but I'm worry that the info that amazon has about an individual seller like me, might passes to the tax man and you find yourself in trouble for not declaring it whatever you have sold during this time.

Amazon has no interest in passing on info to HMRC. Nothing in it for them.

Privacy laws in the UK in particular mean that Amazon will not pass any details about you on to any outside agencies. You do not need to worry about this, or hold back from submitting your driving licence or passport because you are worried about details being passed on or leaked, it will not happen.

This was exactly my point to rsot. I could see no substance to there statement.

Some things are different between the UK and the US Freakzilla which sounds you are aware of yourself as well, sharing ID details is an area that may change in the future, who knows!, but for the foreseeable future they will not share those ID details.

That is one of the issues about the selling of ebay/PayPal when that happens and AliBaba and Amazon are the most likely bidders for them, but, and of course it's a massive but, antitrust or monopoly laws would be thrown into chaos with either of them them being successful. Which might got on to mean the one acceptable option wound involve breaking up ebay/PayPal into smaller units, with all that would involve

Should I worry about Seller Fees VAT Invoice or shall just ignore it?

Below email, is what I have recieved every month from amazon since new year 2015!

Please find enclosed an electronic tax invoice for the month of 03/2015 in PDF format. Please note that this invoice is not a request for payment.

An advanced electronic signature has been attached to this electronic tax invoice. To add the certificate as a trusted certificate, please follow these instructions:

I was going to post the same thing. They WILL pass on details to HMRC.

The unknown question is if Amazon will send HMRC all info for everyone periodically, or if HMRC will just contact Amazon for specific information on certain individuals.

I'm guessing the latter. If they wanted all info for everyone Then surely Ebay/Paypal would be in the same position.

Basically HMCE trawl online marketplaces with there new computer system (read google) and then request information from the marketplace about the traders they are interested in.

Not as easy as this. If you have a stealth account none of the info will be in your name. If HMRC request the info for a certain account and Amazon send the info, that person won't exist to HMRC.

For sure Im not a trader or company limited. Only sell few bit on the side so I dont see the need to declare it. The one who should declare it is the Amazon itself. I think I might open an stealth account soon with no real info,that way they have nothing on me. Viva la aspkin

WOW its so easy, Amazon will pass all the details including bank accounts. Quite easy to find the end user and yes HMRC can get access to bank accounts very easy. Just PAY your taxes
