Default Question about "family and friends" option

If your account has the 21 day (or sooner) hold on it and someone sends you money as "family and friends" does the hold still apply?

If Paypal doesn't see it sketchy it should not be held, most of the 21 day holds only apply to receiving money for goods or ebay payments.

Just as an aside, is it possible OP for you to consider a different "sending option" than pp?

Yeah it might be. Is it risky to send it and F&F?

One time ...likely not so risky but could depend on amount and source of funds...

Well, it's not coming from me sending to another account. It's legitimately someone sending it to me. The amount is $350.

Still going to have the risk of a hold, imo.

paypal still 'looks' at family & friends' payments because they know they get used to bypass fees etc.

No...there are no holds on friends and family payments. Everyone needs to stop fear mongering about things. Pending withdrawal is another story...it could stay pending 72hrs before showing as completed. As for being held, NO...because that option is not supposed to be used for goods or services, so there is nothing for the "buyer" to receive. Something like $350 isnt going to raise flags. If its $10,000 then they will probably limit you and ask wtf is going on.

If the amount is robust(a lot more than $350.00) paypal has been asking for SS number lately. No limitation but funds cant be sent or received.

Well said GB.
I did it quite a while ago on a real account and both parties got limited in the end.

I thought it would be fine with it being a friend payment, which it really was in my case a friend payment. But from your point of view, i can see what you mean. It never crossed my mind that they could see it as avoiding fees :-)
