Default new UK tax legislation

I just read it on Amazon

"Under new UK tax legislation, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) may, upon request, oblige Amazon to disclose to HMRC data we hold in relation to sellers with a potential UK tax liability. The data request may include seller contact information and transaction data. For more information, see http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/1811/contents/made."

If you had a Ghost Account HMRC wouldn't even know it exists as well. It would be worse if Amazon sent HMRC a list of every seller on there system

Its your personal income, so yes tax is payable. The money trail always ends at your bank account.

I had a read through of the legislation, and it isn't clear.

Does this mean that HMRC will contact Amazon for information for a certain individual or does Amazon send HMRC info for every seller?

Trouble is if your operating a "ghost" account but paying taxes they will search for the ghost details and no tax payer will come up and then the digging starts.

Also means when submitting a UTR doc as proof of business, precautions need to be taken

As I said before this has been in place since 2013.

Surely the same applies to Paypal etc.

Yes, this seems a little strange to me also.

When Amz give out the info of the ghost account holder(s), it will not correlate.

I think this message put out there on the seller central message board is acting as a scare tactic for possibly larger sellers, because why would Amz feel the need to tell us about this, we all know this has been in place for ages?

Also remember that no tax is payable if your personal allowance is under £10,000 :

I am having an issue related to this

2 Amazon Stealth accounts after doing fairly well over the past 6 months have hit some sort of threshold, first they asked to see license and bill, but now one of the accounts amazon is insisting switches from:

Individual (not trading profesionally) to either Business (incl. partnerships) or UK Sole Proprietor..

So what do I do about this, I imagine I cant just pull a UTR number out of the air?
If I use my own UTR number all the accounts will then be linked I assume?
Do I contact my accountant and request multiple UTR numbers for myself?

Not sure what to do with this, didnt read that bit in Amazon stealth guide..

By the way no problem paying tax, just use stealth so I can sell on Amazon, they are a bit to trigger happy on suspending accounts and I learnt my lesson the hard way last year..

All sellers are having to go through this at some point.

Amazon have probably looked at your sales and know you can't be an individual due to the volume. That's why they want you to change legal entity.

You cannot obtain more then one UTR.

You've got to be creative.
