Default Using an email address that is NOT a Paypal account as your Paypal payment address

Do any of you enter an email address that does NOT have a Paypal account attached to it as your "Paypal payment email address" when listing an item on Ebay?

I just finished reading the eBay Stealth Complete Guide, and it mentions that, while you wait for a Merchant Account to be approved by Ebay, you can enter a "plain" email address that is NOT a Paypal account as your Paypal Payment Email Address when listing an Ebay item.
Obviously, if someone actually tried to pay this address via Paypal, the account wouldn't exist.

I'm just wondering, does anyone do this PERMANENTLY? And just send out a non-Paypal invoice once the sale is made?

In this case, which Merchant Account works the best?

Do customers commonly complain or report you for entering a Paypal payment address but not actually accepting Paypal?

I have limited experience on merchant accounts so I won't comment on that.

When you add an "empty" email account that's not linked to paypal you are basically just doing this so you can list. I think with newer ebay accts you will need to accept paypal until your merchant acct has been verified so this is so that you can sell before then. So this is only so that you can start to sell faster. If someone pays through paypal during that period the best thing to do is to email them to let them know you only accept payment through merchant account and have them cancel the paypal payment.

hope this helps.

good luck

All paypal payment go unclaimed

Okay, I tried doing it and my buyers are freaking out.
Basically, I entered an email address that doesn't have a Paypal linked to it (so that I can list while I wait for my merchant account to be approved by Ebay).
Once the auction ended, I sent them an email saying, "Sorry, that Paypal isn't working so please select "pay by Credit Card" at check out.
Well, these buyers are upset saying "You said you'd accept Paypal!" "I'm not going to pay unless it's through Paypal!" and they are refusing to pay by Credit Card...
How does it work for some people?

I opened a CCnow account, but they make you send this really amature looking invoice to the winner... Don't buyers refuse to pay through that??

Tell them that your paypal acct is limited due to unauthorized access and might take months for them to resolve. Allow buyers to either pay by other means or let them cancel the transaction, that's all you can do until the merch acct goes through.

You should do what brandon1984 said too, post in the auction that you can't accept paypal. Too bad most buyers don't like to read.

I do this with a payment service and surprisingly have still gotten paid by ppl. Perhaps my products are just too popular to refuse because I certainly have more than enough competition.
