Default Ebay auction question. Selling used untested items

I have a lot of used but untested items which I want to dispose of on ebay auctions. Satnavs/Camera/phones/dvdplayers e.t.c some of these items are clearly defective

Although I wish to list them clearly stating the reasons for selling them but Is it advisable to list this kind of items on ebay, I am afraid it could get me easily banned when people ask to return the items for not working which will ultimately leave me with defect.

I have quite lot of them and I wish to know the best way to approach this.

You are right!, selling untested items like these on ebay will cause you nightmares!, no matter how much info you put in your listings about them being untested, how some are of them clearly defective, buyers will simply not read that info, then give you loads of hassle about why they don't work! Been plenty of posts on here from people who have tried this before you, then they end up posting on here that they have so many complaints and refunds through their accounts that they have been suspended. Simply not worth the hassle.

List them on other sites such as Craigslist or Gumtree, you life will be much easier.

It's a massive problem unfortunately. You can list as "for parts, not working" and there will be buyers that don't read that, don't read the listing and expect a perfect working item for 20-30% of the normal cost.

Then there will be the buyers who will buy, attempt to fix, damage even further or realise that it's not financially worthwhile to do so.

Ultimately you'll be the one who pays.

I've got probably £1500 of electrical items (laptops, cameras and pc's) that i've taken parts from, bought faulty ones for 1-2 parts.

It'd be 1/2 our spending money for Florida this year but I can't bring myself to list them because of the headache I know it'll cause.

Selling locally for 1/2 the amount is probably the way forward. Or an ebay auction cash on collection only.

Doesn't cash on collection open you to negative feedback still?

Gues you could open the item to show them the state it is in taerese honey, but again you are probably right, online auctions like ebay are scam central, people will take any opportunity they can, even after achknowledging on your doorstep in front of you that they recognise the condition the item is in, to then go through ebay to deman a refund knowing as most of them do that ebay will always side with them against you.

I agree with the others. I once even put in HUGE RED LETTERS:

Not Working/ For Parts

STILL got a negative feedback because the item was not working!

Not to mention, the questions people ask - like "is the CPU OK?" The whole reason I listed them that way is I am NOT a technician, I have NO test equipment and I do NOT know how to repair them. How would I know if the CPU is salvageable or not???

Hehe Jeff, you have 'illustrated' the point perfectly there with the potential pitfalls of listing untested goods!

I think ebay do remove this kind of negative feedbacks and revert the defect if you contest them on the basis of the description.

Actually taerese there has been another thread about this very thing about ebay removing negative feedback and about them not doing it anymore, might still be on the main page.

They removed it for me couple of weeks ago.

They said the defect was removed because I already mentioned the fault in the description and was even told I could block such user.

I think its still a risky approach because its down to the rep who reviewed the complaint.

I'm convinced there is a whole breed of human/monster hybrid that roams e5ay just looking for stuff like this where they can get something cheap even cheaper by opening a claim or pretending to be shocked that it's not working. I've personally found that even crazy low BIN prices just to cover part of the shipping in an effort to just get some FB isn't even worth the effort, these things draw in problem buyers like mosquitoes.
