I just read this on one of the ebay forums. Here is the link below regarding the Canadian government probe regarding the reporting and payment of taxes on your ebay sales. They won the fight to get all the records from 2004 and 2005 from ebay, but are now expanding it to 2006 and 2007 records also.
Aspkin was right about being a power seller is not worth it.
As for taxes though, they can't estimate income that well by mere eBay sales as income is more complicated and what eBay thinks you make is not always your profit. Some profit on shipping, some people don't always do unpaid disputes (like if the item sells at a loss and the buyer decides not to respond so the seller doesn't want to jinx it), and people also give refunds and get chargebacks after the time is up to do an unpaid dispute or if they already had to do one and close it and then later had to refund or got chargebacked.
Personally, I think anyone who officially registered a business for eBay isn't going to be foolish enough to try to avoid paying any taxes.
I always wanted to have the powerseller logo next to my ebay id. Finally selling enough to make powerseller, think im going to turn it down if they offer it.
the powerseller certificate once made me feel like a million bucks .. now i look at it as a bad omen lol
