Most US banks won't open accounts unless you physically come here. And be prepared to be asked a LOT of questions! Ever since the Patriot Act was passed after 9/11, banking has become very strict here.
As a US citizen living in the US, I can have as many bank accounts as I want to, but the banks MUST get a SSN from each customer, take steps to verify identity, report any suspicious transactions, as well as any cash or bearer instrument transactions over $10,000.
There may be services that acquire US bank accounts for others, probably through lawyers. In most cases, that is how people from the US often open bank accounts in other countries. I don't know of any, however.
