Default Do those reloadable debit cards have a routing/account number?

I noticed those reloadable debit cards seem to act just like a savings account, with a debit card, monthly fee, identity verification and all that. Further, they tend to come from well established federal banks like U.S. Bank unlike the Vanilla gift cards. Are these reloadable debit cards really just glorified savings accounts? If so, do any of them come with a routing/account number (Possibly online?). The US bank card says it can create upto 5 sub-accounts, so that makes me think it's really just a savings account, but do you have access to 'the numbers'? I'm going to be asking tomorrow!

Absolutely, and if you use Netspend, Western Union, RushCard, Walmart Money Card, Ace Elite, Greendot....USE them all!

Yes, they do. The problem is, most are managed by MetaBank (ask who manages the bank account portion) and they do NOT allow any deposits under mismatched names. I had to argue with them a couple of years ago because the MIDDLE INITIAL was wrong! So, they are not good for stealth. Also, their account numbers are very long and PayPal and Amazon seems suspicious of them (but I cannot PROVE that).

In any event, real bank accounts are MUCH BETTER for stealth.

Oh man, just forgot, "mismatch names" might be an issue for the microdeposits. I guess that depends on the bank, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try. Good mismatch name banks are...so far... Chase, Bank of America, Wells fargo, PNC and a few smaller/rarer ones like suntrust/people's united/HSBC. I was thinking I was going to use the debit card for the VCC, but that obviously wouldn't match, lol. Oh well, $5 VCCs aren't too pricy.

Yeah, saw a few gift cards issued by metabank (Usually the plain visa ones). Instantly knew to avoid those, lol.

Just thinking it could be a cheap/quick form of VBA, especially that one with 5 subaccounts. It seems like subaccounts can usually be 'nick named'.

I believe the issuing bank and managing banks are listed in the fine print. Seemed like it was that way with the gift cards.

Transfer with a name other than what's registered to the card and they will all fall like dominos. I think you need to learn a little bit more about ste/alth.

The best ones to use are business bank accounts.

You do understand that youll need to provide your SSN in order to activate these right?
And since youre using your SSN why not do things properly and just open a regular bank account?
In all your threads you keep trying to find all these shortcuts and ways to 'save a buck'. You make it sound like noone ever tried these methods before. I dont get it - you really think that we're all a bunch of jerkoffs who never thought of this stuff? never tried any of it? Sorry to disappoint you friend but youre wrong and youre going about this the wrong way. Takes money to make money and takes a bit of effort to do things properly. Youre wasting your time and youre barking up the wrong tree.

I would say go ahead and try it, but my GUESS is that US Bank will want social security numbers for each sub-account. Years ago that would not have been possible, but nowadays they are issuing SSN's at birth.

Default Re: Do those reloadable debit cards have a routing/account number?

So dropped by the bank and picked up a contour U.S. Bank card. While I was there, they were trying to inform me on how poor the decision this was because their savings accounts are so much better (less fees), but they never really knew why I wanted it in the first place but that's okay. They don't need to know.

Compared to opening a savings account, it was a pretty streamlined process. Cashier got most of my information from my drivers license so she only really had asked for my SSN.

Started it up and activated the card. It appears that I do have ACH numbers. However, even though this routing number is the standard 9 digit length, the account number is 13 digits long! Woah, that's compared to my standard bank account numbers which are 10 digits long and my capital 360 subaccounts which were 11 digits long (which paypal didn't accept). So PayPal can probably easily tell that this is a reloadable debit card if they wanted to, but will they accept it? I'll have to try it next week.

I requested a subaccount and it created it, however, they are going to send me a card for the subaccount to activate (They didn't give me the choice) and so I'm waiting for the card. Right now, the subaccount shows that it's "unactivated" and "direct deposit" is disabled(necessary for PayPal's micro deposits and ACH transfers) and it doesn't appear like I can activate the direct deposit on the subaccount at the moment (they didn't given me the choice). Maybe I can when I activate the account when my card arrives? (Subaccounts with direct deposit are advertised as a feature, so I'm hoping that I can activate it. But, it might not be available on "my" cards - they don't explicitly spell this out in the service agreement as far as I can tell. The service agreements just say I can enable/disable direct deposits on subaccounts from the primary account, but I don't see that option anywhere on the site.)

When creating the subaccount, the prompt asks if it's your card or for someone else. If it's someone else, they ask for their name, address, phone number, etc. and I assume they send the card to their address. They might ask for SSN when activating the card, but they might not - the agreement sounds like they do. For that reason, I chose to up under my own name, and now waiting for the car to arrive to activate it. The accounts can have nicknames, but I don't really know if those nicknames show up at ATMs and on ACH headers and if I can make deposits using those nicknames. I will find out once I get my subaccount cards.

So right now it kind of looks like it's iffy, but I'll know more when I get the card.

Also, noticed that the stores around here only had Green Dot, Netspend, Walmart Money, Bancorp and American Express reloadable debit cards. Seems like the "big bank" reloadable cards are exclusively found at the banks.

Amex market cap $74bn, US Bancorp $72bn. which one of those numbers is bigger?

almost every bank offers prepaid debit cards. has nothing to do with being "big".

the good thing is i can already see your dreams slowly, but surely, dying. going to have to go to the store and buy every debit card possible and confirm what is already known. then report back here with your new "insights".
