Default It appears I don't need a cellphone...

I listed a home phone on paypal and ebay is inviting me to sell. Paypal never said it had to send me a text and nowhere in this process does it seem like it /really/ requires a cellphone. Tell me the risk in this? I mean, paypal is saying I'm "80% verified" but what's the extra 20% really mean to me?

Some people feel this does not make a difference. I disagree. I think the more "verified" you are, the better your chances of keeping the account over the long term. Is PayPal going to close your account because you did not verify a mobile number? No. Of course not. But if your account goes under review, it could tip the balance as to whether or not it gets suspended, or they ask for ID, etc.

Over the years, I have learned that with PayPal, you have to be proactive and try to stay ahead of the game. Jump through their hoops. Do everything you can to look like a normal user. Because if you don't, it WILL catch up with you.

True, but at times paypal may ask for a phone verification and having a accessible number will get you past it while not having one may set you back weeks for the verification to reset.

80% verified is the status of most of my working accounts - works well for me at least - I rotate and keep sales spread out
