If I remember correctly disputes only put your Paypal account in the negative, it won't draft from your checking.
If it does, you usually have a couple of days before it hits your bank. Get the money in the bank or cancel the bank account.
If you cancel your bank account the charge will bounce back to Paypal, takes about 5 days. Then Paypal tries your balance again, you better have the money in Paypal by then or the account will most likely be limited.
After that, if your trying to keep the Paypal account active then add and verify a new checking account.
It sucks, I had to do it once because I couldn't afford my fees, a week later I could afford them. No harm done just a pain in the ass.
