Default Ebay listing -- what's going on?

I was suspended from ebay for about a year, but I am back now. My question is about ebay listings.

I listed an item for 10 days that didn't sell (had 4 watchers!), but I noticed there were items that closed after mine listed ahead of mine, which was strange.

I decided to list my item again, this time for only 5 days in hopes of being ahead of others. Now, my item closes in 21 hours and it is on page 2. There are 12 other items ahead of mine (on page 1!) that close AFTER mine. A couple even close in 21 days! what is that about?

I know I can change the option on my search to what closes first, but most people don't do that.

I feel like I am being scammed by ebay. Why would my item be behind a bunch that close later than mine?

I don't care if my item doesn't sell, but the fact that it is on page 2 and closing soon makes me angry.

Has this happened to anyone else?

The reason is the listing order on Ebay Pages is no longer based on Close soonest. It depends on how often an item gets sold and if you offer free shipping or not. For example, if an item from a certain seller gets sold frequently and he keeps relisting it, it will rank very high on first pages, no matter the closing time. Same is true if you offer free shipping. Those listings get better exposure.

its called BEST MATCH (not screaming at anyone by the way lol), its one of ebay's ways to put new sellers allll the way at the back. you can change your settings to "time - ending soonest"

thats what i do. that best match actually causes people to make less money than what others would because it wouldnt get seen

Yes, the dreaded best match. Once you have a good listing that is selling NEVER end it.
Just revise it if you need to.
Anyone have any other strategies for being 1st page in Best Match?

I hate ebay SO much!! They are playing this Best Match game which makese NO sense. Now, I have over a day for my item to close (no bids) and it won't allow me to revise the section to add more days to the item.

Seriously, why are they able to scam sellers like this? I have 20+ positive feedback, sold some stuff, but this is insane how they allow the listing of auctions. There are some items listed before mine that close 5,7, 10 + days from mine. It makes no sense at all to me.

i have no idea how i am on the first page - i get there all the time except when i was selling elmo live and wii fit? - it may have something to do with the seller ratings and ebay may consider that to be a part of the best match too.

The better your seller rating is, the better your chance of showing up on the first page will be.
