Pay pal limited cannot receive money

Hi guys here is the scenario. This is a legit account under my aunts name.

I kept getting the pls submit your ssn message. I never sumitted her number.

Then the other day i got this message.

now here is my question , this account has only collected around 5000 in sales on it , so i was surprised this happened.

if i wait till the begining of the new year will the account be reset and i would be able to begin to receive money again?

or should i just submit her ss# . the only reason i would be afraid to submit her ss# is i dont want a 1099 k to sent on error to the irs in her name

i do claim the sales i receive on my own tax forms with my accountant when we do my business taxes

Are you given the option to upgrade to a Business Account and add an EIN rather than a SS#?

Usually if this is a request given because your on pace to go over the IRS threshold you will be able to add an EIN

Definitely do not add her SS# , things can get messy, your income will be reported as hers to the IRS, so she will be in debt for whatever taxes owed, don't go that route.

hi dm shark yes i can updgrade to business, i even went back and added up

total sales for the year , and there were around 6000 total, nowhere near

the 20k. i was really surprised they limited it. has this happened before

to other users ? i had this happen last year around this time as well,

and the account reset, but i didnt have the unable to receive money limit

on the account.

Paypal goes by projected sales, they want to make sure that anyone that does go over 200/20K that they have their tax ID ready for the IRS.

So if your on pace to meet the IRS threshold than PayPal asks for the tax ID and shortly after asking if nothing is provided and sales continue they limit the account .


You do have the option to upgrade to a Business account and Add aN EIN as your tax Id, if u want to continue using the account the rest of the year

Does this only happen on US accounts, or EU and UK as well?

You may have hit 200 items also if remember that usually pops up when you hit 160 items someone correct me if I'm wrong

Trust me, you can't up to business to add EIN. Just try and you'll see I'm right

In the EU we have EU limits instead which is 2500 Euro
