No, paypal is just asking for SSN now
I never been linked to a suspended acct. even though I am a suspended user. Anyways, i've been playing with paypal for a little bit trying to see what works and what doesn't. The first paypal account that I created, I believe I had too much movement and they slammed me with the SSN question. Even after I had the two (bank account and credit card verification) out of three done and I was completely verified and my limits were lifted. Well, the second paypal account I didn't have any movement and I did a premier account. Everything was perfect, no disputes and completely verified. About a week and a half into it...I got hit with the SSN question. I called and they said that they are just doing random credit checks and they need my social security number. I don't think there is a way to get around this. If anyone has any ideas, let me know but I don't think its possible. I called the Social Security Dept and asked them if paypal has the right to ask for a SSN. It sounds like anyone can ask but we as consumers have the right to say no. Unfortunately, they will hold our funds. What I don't get is this...if they are not FDIC Insured...they are not a bank. So, how can they legally have the right to ask for your SSN number? Why don't they just make you sign up with a SSN number. Why go through all the BS and then get hit with this requirement? Anyone have any ideas? I think paypal could get into trouble for this? No?
