Default What would you do in this situation?

I sold an item yesterday to a high bidder. I didnt receive a payment so the next day I checked the email for that seller account. I got a message from the high bidder saying they didnt think they were going to win and asked if they have to pay.

I simply replied that bidding is a legally binding contract and asked when I should expect payment.

Later that day I noticed my feedback went down one. It was that same bidder! I thought they just left it and decided not to pay. So I log in to reply to the feedback and notice I have a new payment from that same bidder.

Why on earth would you pay for the item, and immediately give a negative feedback for it before they even get it? They only said "this wasnt good". This isnt a $2 or $3 item either, theres some money involved.

So right now, Im asking people here what would they do in this situation? The accounts fully disposable, but Id like to keep it considering theres no warnings or anything on it.

Personally...

I would call them at home. Put on your BEST Happy Face and try to have a real conversation with them. Be pleasant and curtious. And try to talk things out. Let them know you are a real person and not just a business.

I call my customers all the time, seems to help quite a bit on certain situations. All my DSR's are at 5.0 on my stealth account.

Then if you can swing things your way, use the feedback removal link...

usually when you click "view order details" on ebay there phone number is usually under their address. Buyer's dont have to list their phone number though right?

If I have an item with a second bid from a buyer, I get their details at once. I make sure then I get no bad surprises. Allows me better control

I requested the information and called the number. Apparently the guy let his brother use the account to buy things while he was away on military duty. Anyways, he relayed the message to his brother and the next morning I woke up to a nice 100% feedback again.

Thanks everyone for all your help
